Marie-Grace and Cécile! These two will always hold a special place in my heart- they are the two dolls whose stories I’ve enjoyed the most! I absolutely adore them ☺️ What do you think they are discussing?
TIL that airplane pilots would announce that Jonas Salk was on board and passengers would burst into applause. Hotels routinely would upgrade him into their penthouse suites.
For those who don’t know and don’t want to click thru to find out: Jonas Salk is the reason we in North America no longer live in terror of polio. He also refused to patent or profit from his vaccine. He also spent the last years of his life researching a vaccine for AIDS, long before that was cool and back when a lot of people were secretly hoping it really would just kill all the gays. So you’re damn right people applauded and gave free upgrades.
When I saw this dress on Etsy, my first thought was that it looked like a version of her holiday dress, only with a pattern I actually liked. I got the gloves to go with it, as no Regency lady would be caught dead without her gloves, though I think the bright white looks a little odd next to the off-white lace. Oh well, she still looks gorgeous!
The second image is of the stockings I got at the same time- I love a good embroidered stocking, and the pattern on these was too pretty to pass up! I like to think Caroline did these flowers herself :)
Caroline's time-traveling friend Ava thinks she looks like a princess, and her cat Sherbert agrees!
I bought this dress, the stockings, and the fingered gloves from StarberryChic on Etsy. All three pieces are absolutely beautiful, well-made, and came super fast! The dress closes with purple snaps in the back, which I very much prefer over velcro in terms of looks and lack of hair-snagging. The gloves and stockings appear to be made of the same white stretchy material, are finished well, and the embroidery is very well done. All in all, 10/10 would buy from there again.
Here’s the real kicker…. From the seller’s description: “There are some minor wear issues with the cloth bodies with some minor marks and although the dolls are clean, their hair could use some sprucing up etc.”
Can’t stop thinking about the time my dumbass got myself banned from the american girl wiki when i was 12 years old because I kept editing kit’s page to say that her new beforever dress is terrible
Once upon a time, a young princess named Lyra lived in a tower that was very far away from everything and everyone.
She had been born in the tall, thin, windowless tower, and had never been outside of its thick stone walls. Before her birth, the Goblin King had declared that if he was not given the lands bordering the great river, he would steal away the Queen’s firstborn child and turn her into a goblin. So the princess had only ever known life within the tower walls, with no knowledge of the world outside. She didn’t even understand the concept of things being far away. For her, the entire universe was in this small place. Anything in that universe was always close enough to touch.
At the top of the tower was one small window, but for many years Lyra didn’t know that. She was not permitted to open the door that led to the highest staircase. But a fortnight before her eleventh birthday, a newly employed servant carelessly forgot to lock the door after passing in and out of it to shake the bedsheets, and Lyra found the passageway wide open. She cautiously looked beyond the door, and the staircase was lit with a light much brighter than that of a torch or a candle. She followed the stairs, wanting to see why the light of that torch was so bright and so colorless. She walked up the staircase until it ended. And there, in the wall of the tower, was a hole in the universe.
No but for real I’ve had this dude for like five months and haven’t named him or changed their arrival outfit. I can’t even discern a personality for them. If anyone has any ideas feel free to shout it out :)
He’s so pretty though 💗 His face up with the freckles is just perfect ahhh
american girl shopping is fucking amazing, on one site it’ll be like “this doll is still being sold for $98 on ag’s website and the one we have is missing their outfit, three inches of hair and a limb, we’ll take $300″ and another site will be like “lol i’ll sell this for ten bucks” and it’s a jess mcconnell in her original outfit
Someone must have donated a ridiculous amount because they're is SO MUCH AG stuff on shopgoodwill right now if you want random huge clothing lots or specific furniture or lightly used dolls or to really grow your book collection you should go look
i bought this doll a week ago and received a copy of this amazing photo to go along with her!!! this doll was given to its previous owners grandmother as a little girl after she had just gotten a bob haircut. it was made just for her and the hair that had been cut off was used to make the wig!!! u can see her on the carriage in 1906, holding the same doll that now belongs to me! ive called her louisa and she is so special
I’ve been researching the Japanese Friendship doll exchange of 1927 recently and find it really interesting. I found it cool that American Girl actually has a small history with the project! Along with publishing an article about it in American Girl magazine in 1997, AG dolls have actually been used as modern friendship doll ambassadors! The originator of the project in the 1920s was Sydney Gulick. In the ‘90s and 2000s, his grandson seems to have continued his mission by giving new American dolls to schools and organizations in Japan. As you can see from this list of new friendship dolls, many of them look to be Pleasant Company dolls! You can learn more about them by clicking their pictures and reading their pages.
Children reading to Tamara, a friendship doll given to Shintoku Kindergarten in 2001.
Joanna, who was given to Minami Elementary School, wears a kimono handmade by Ms. Atsumi Tanabe (1997).
She’s so so so cute with freckles! This should have been her default look. Nellie and Kit are the only historicals with freckles, and this would distinguish Maryellen from Courtney a bit more as well.
So I actually had this Mattel Cinderella nightgown I’ve been holding onto and I figure my Cinderella custom can use it. When I get my Cinderella Disney Store playset from my visit to England this June, I’ll probably stick her in the pink dress but until then I guess it’s nice this dress has a use.
