New chapter of What Is Home Without You just dropped!! I know it’s been almost a year since I posted it but here we are. I will also go back and italicize all the things in ao3 later, I’m too tired to make final edits now oops. ---
Kara takes a deep breath, nuzzling herself further in to the sheets, “I’m so glad I get to be here.”
“I’m so glad we got you back,” Lena sighs, feeling the weight of the statement fill her chest.
Something inside her pitter patters at Kara’s use of the word get. That she almost didn’t get to come home.
A sharp pain makes its way in to her throat and she tries to swallow it down. Lena scoots from the edge of the bed to meet Kara in the middle, throwing the duvet over her body. There is more than enough room for both of them to go the night without even touching each other, but Lena would rather do anything than deprive herself of Kara ever again. One shared look and she knows that Kara feels the same.
Showered and snuggly, Kara drapes a tired arm around Lena’s waist, and brings the other one up to trace her hairline. Lena sighs contently at the newfound intimacy. As if to let Kara know she tangles their legs together in a less than graceful way but she doesn’t care about being graceful at this point. I’m so glad I got you back.
Kara hums at the content before clearing her throat slightly, “No, I mean..I’m very grateful you found me and brought me back to earth too,” Kara starts.
Lena puts her hands in between their chests, and places one gingerly just over Kara’s left collarbone to feel her strong heartbeat through a thin well worn MIT cotton t-shirt.
They pause a moment, taking in each other's presence. Lena leans in so their foreheads touch lightly, “I’m sensing there was more,” she says with closed eyes. Hers are shut, almost as if seeing Kara in this proximity, in the safety of her room after all this time, would be too overwhelming.
But Kara’s gaze never wavers as she searches Lena’s face.
“I meant....I mean that I’m so glad I get to be here...right now, with you Lena. Like this. Just...us. Like this.”
