This takes place after Lord of the Rink. Sofia is Hugo’s hero.
#Hugfia Week 2020 My Hero
The Enchanted Ice Dancing Show at Royal Prep had just ended and James and some of the other Royal Prep students (mostly princes) had wanted Sofia and Hugo to help them learn how to do Enchanted Ice Dancing. They were more than happy to help. Sofia and Hugo had fun teaching or at least trying to teach them. Many fell multiple times, but they got back up, laughing, and having a good time.
Gradually, families called out to the students and they had to leave. Hugo glanced around and noticed when there were only a few students left on the ice. He wanted to speak to Sofia privately before she left. Hugo skated over to Sofia who was busy showing James one of her moves. He tapped her on the shoulder.
“Sofia?” he asked. “May I speak with you?”
Sofia turned around at his tap.
“Sure,” she replied with her genuine smile.
Hugo skated off to a private corner and Sofia followed, wondering what he was going to say.
Hugo cleared his throat.
“Sofia,” he spoke and then paused. He started again.
“I want to thank you for helping me to find the courage to speak up to my dad about me liking Enchanted Ice Dancing more than hockey. I know my dad is more traditional about what princes can do, but tonight that all changed. I do not have to hide what I like anymore. You have shown me that it can be a prince thing too and I do not have to worry about being made fun of for doing it. In fact, you have shown all of us. Just take a look around.”
Hugo gestured at the princes on the ice.
Sofia glanced around and took in the view. It made her proud to be part of change at Royal Prep.
Sofia turned back to Hugo.
“Your welcome. Always happy to help a friend in need,” Sofia told him.
No one spoke for a moment. Then Sofia saw that her mother and father were waving her over. Sofia waved back at them.
“Looks like I have to go now Hugo. Thanks for ice dancing with me tonight. I had a lot of fun. You are great at ice dancing.”
“Your welcome. You are a great partner. It will be a night I will never forget.”
Hugo leaned in to give Sofia a hug and she hugged him back.
“See you tomorrow in school,” Sofia called back as she skated away, with a wave.
Hugo responded back with a wave of his own.
“Yep, see ya,” he said.
Hugo stood there and watched her take off her skates and walk away with her family. He could feel that something had changed tonight and not just with his family. He felt like there could be something more between the two of them and he was eager to find out. Tomorrow could not come soon enough.
