I’ve loved post-apocalyptic media for a long time because depictions of stateless societies are fascinating but also wow cool wasteland guns explosions. I might sometimes post about related media, despite this being a Fallout-specific blog.

boone is the most depressing companion he let me dress him up in fetish gear and all he does is sigh sometimes and i have the mod that lets me have multiple companions and arcade stole his sniper rifle somehow (arcade refuses to wear fetish gear) so now all he does is run into battle with his fists alone like a man who has nothing to live for except to die

I think the reason I kinda prefer Fallout New Vegas as a playing experience is mainly due to characterisation of the protagonist.

Fallout 3: you are given snippets of the life from birth of the Wanderer down in Vault 101. However, other than the setting and the existance of Liam Neason Dad, its really up to you to decide what your path, personality, and interpersonal relationships were like.

Fallout 4: Relies heavily on the Lone Survivor's existance as a parent and their drive to find their son. And although it is a good motivator to do the main storyline - it doesnt leave any wiggle room for personal characterisation. I mean yeah I have an oc that I based off of Nora, but what if I just want to play a horrid synth? What if I dont want to be in a straight nuclear family? Too bad i guess

Fallout New Vegas: Chandler Bing shoots you in the head and you figure it out from there. Courier has only One confirmed backstory element (accidentally delivering a dirty bomb in Lonesome Road), but everythong else is up to you. Are you gay? Are you old? Do you know what a fish is? Its all you man

Based on that, Caesar and House neither know what a fish is

Benny, 3: has seen the word fish but assumed it was just another funny old world thing like ring-a-ding-ding

House, 5: his fucked up stasis has made him forget what fish look like for the most part but he does recall their general shape

Caesar, 4: has seen the word fish in a book but no describing features so he has no clue what they look like

Oliver, 5: his soldiers have reported ‘fish men’ near lake mead and he just nods along because he barely knows what they are but assumes it’s funny shaped dudes on legs

Kimball, 5: vaguely knows of fish but not definitively enough to describe one well, just their general fishlike shape

Ulysses, 10 (Jesus Christ): knows the name of every fish and habitat on the west coast by heart

Klein and Mobius (10) both know everything possible about fish but the other think tanks (5) only vaguely remember what they are

Elijah, 9: Knows nearly everything about fish, but the most esoteric knowledge eludes his grasp

Graham and Daniel, 7: Know more than average about fish

Papa Khan, 3: does not know what a fish is but owns a hat that says “women want me, fish fear me” because one of the Khanlets thought it would be funny
