This one isn’t a hotbutton issue for Republicans vs Democrats so dont assume that just because you live in a blue state that your reps will definitely vote for it. Make the call.
Boost the heck out of this. It is bipartisan legislation, Sponsored by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and co-sponsored by Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH). The bill number is S. 4102 and I don’t think it has a House equivalent yet. If you tell your reps to vote for S. 4102 sponsored by Sen. Brown and co-sponsored by Sen. Portman, you could be completely changing the game for disabled married couples. (The Senate has a drop-down menu by state at the top of the website https://www.senate.gov/)
it’s kind of established that there is no “get out of a beatdown” role you can take other than being a cop yourself, right? media, medics, lawyers, all fair game.
For those who hate lawyers I do want to point out that legal observers are sent by the National Lawyer’s Guild, which is the primary organization providing pro-bono legal defense to protesters and black community leaders who have been jailed to try to derail the movement. So, these are not the lawyers you hate.
Just to reiterate: the entire point of NLG legal observers is to deter unlawful or improper behavior on the part of the police / law enforcement personnel–and to document such behavior, if they aren’t successful in deterring it. In the U.S., they have to be trained and certified. Their job is to help you protest to the full extent of your constitutional rights and with minimal interaction with the criminal justice system. I cannot stress the extent to which they are on your side.
The National Lawyer’s Guild’s motto is “human rights over property interests” and was created as a direct fuck you to conservative and exclusionary bar associations. Their dues are way cheaper than other bar associations and you can join even as a jailhouse lawyer (a prisoner who teaches themselves the law to advocate for others).
And just because this is literally my job: your negative perception of lawyers is literally propaganda. The portrayal of defense attorneys as evil for defending criminals, the idea that suing people is something only rich or very greedy people do, the complete erasure of legal aid as a thing that exists, are all designed to make you afraid to advocate for your legal rights.

all i see about this whole skateboarding thing is "LOL FUCK TERFS!!! TERFS STAY MAD" but no actual talk about the winner herself, so her name is Lillian Gallagher and this is her :-)
the bad news is that my mom was sad that her eggplants haven’t been growing; however, it turns out that the reason her eggplants haven’t been growing is because her eggplants were actually spinach. The good news is that her spinach is growing very well. She was also sad that her peppers haven’t been growing either, but it turns out that the peppers were actually eggplant. And I’m happy to report that the eggplant is also growing very well.
hey everyone, it looks like I may be able to avoid surgery from this accident possibly but I desperately will need some help. I’m scheduled to get facets done on my lumbar (lower) spine on the 26th, 6 injections between the vertebrae that will add more lubrication and spacing between them, and 2 weeks after a cervical epidural (in my neck) if I can afford it. A kid hit me going 50+ mph totaling the car and breaking my leg, back, and teeth and totaling the car. both mom and dad died so I don’t have any family to ask for help with this. like I said for now I’m just worrying about the facets if it’s possible, and for anyone that can help I will be getting reimbursed by the kids insurance within the next few months and could pay you back, just message me of course so I know and we can work it out.
I’m going to see if I can raise enough for that before anything else, and try and just focus on that for the time being. The trigger point injections helped but my neurosurgeon and orthopedic surgeon sent me to this doctor because they feel since I’m young we should try and avoid surgery if possible and this should allow that and provide relief for 12-24 months if not more, which after all I’ve been through is enough to make me cry. My PayPal is preferred (https://paypal.com/jpd05), but I also have Cash App ($sachasaurus), Chime ($toebeens), KoFi (@toebeens) and Zelle (message for info). Donations of any size are very much appreciated and if not reblogs are of course! Thanks for your time, and again I will gladly work out paying you back if that’s possible too, the thought of actual long lasting relief from this finally is overwhelming but trying to not get too excited in case I just can’t afford it.
the other day a guy made an off hand comment about johnny depp's ex "trying to take his money in court" which was quite strange since he's the one who is suing her rn and i told him that and he was completely incredulous. I also told him that she was an actress of her own (he didn't know) and probably didn't need to be "taking his money" and that this wasn't a divorce settlement but a defamation case, since she had already accused him of domestic abuse, at which point he got real quiet and pensive. and that's the thing with this case and media in general, most people aren't insanely dedicated misogynists who know all the background and are trying to be as evil as possible to this woman, but people who hear these comments and memes and jokes here and there and pick up on them and their general message and create a narrative in their head. and the thing is the jokes and memes are meant to create a specific narrative and it's working. we are living thru the era with the biggest capacity for spreading misinformation, propaganda, and planting ideas onto people's heads in a way that makes them think they came up with it on their own, and people know it and are taking advantage of it. this is isn't accidental
