Downloading Apps from iTunes Japan and Google Play Japan (Links)
This is the post I promised a while ago so y’all can get in on the PocoDun event, but you can use it for pretty much ANY app you can’t find in your country’s app store.
I’m actually just going to be providing links, because I can’t really help people on Android (mine is slow and has very little space). I will tell you that from what I understand, using iOS is easier in this regard, so if you have a choice between Android and iOS, choose the latter.
Note: Downloading on Android requires a VPN, which masks the fact that you’re not in Japan. I do not endorse nor guarantee the legitimacy or safety of any VPN services covered in these guides.
This link right here is the most detailed for both Android and iOS: Art and Hobby Lab
There’s some sort of loading screen, so if it doesn’t work for you, here are some others:
iOS Guide from Amino apps user Clarisse (who appears to be trapped in Idol Hell like me)
Android Guide from VPNCritic
But Jezzy, how do I buy add-ons (ie. in-game currency or gacha packs) for these apps?
Assuming you don’t have a Japanese credit card, you will need to buy gift cards and use those. I have two places I’ve used so far and have had luck with. YMMV:
Play-Asia (non-affiliate / affiliate)
JP e-cards (iTunes only)
Here are some other people have used that seem to have decent reviews. Please be aware that many have an authorization process to make sure you’re you and not a thief, which can get personal. Don’t share more than you feel safe doing.
Finding the games themselves
You’ll most likely have to search for the app by its Japanese name. This can usually be found by googling.
Spoiler: Pocolon Dungeon is listed under ポコダン
That’s about all I can think of. When signing up, just use google translate to get through. Learning katakana is immensely helpful in signing up and playing apps. If you have any other questions, my ask box is open.
