Do you know if there is any chance of a scanlation group picking up the translation for chapters 33-41 of the Ueda comic? I saved the jpn scans a from 33 to 39 a while back, but have to resort to machine translation for them unfortunately

Hi! As far as I'm aware, the ThirdLeagueHeroes group is still planning on scanlating the rest of T&B The Comic. They did recently mention they were working on chapter 33, so we probably just have to wait as they work through the rest. But as for other groups taking an interest, I haven't heard anything else, sorry!

T&B2 The Comic Translations

For those keeping up with the ongoing manga releases of T&B2, Ekala of the Anything Goes fan group has generously begun translating the chapters over on their site here! They also have their own translated versions of Kaleido Proud Fiesta and AIDA, so please check them out and support their work!

Tiger & Bunny 2 The Comic currently has five chapters out, and can be read online in japanese while it’s available here.

(Quick explanation of Chapter 0, which is also labeled as Chapter 42, is that it was released back in 2019 as a oneshot continuation to the first T&B The Comic manga, and it is now included with T&B2.)

NOTE - for the sake of avoiding spoilers, I will update this post again in about a week or so to include another date. Should you decide to find out this mystery birthday that I haven’t included at this time, I would highly recommend watching at least the first episode of season 2 before checking, otherwise you will potentially spoil it for yourselves.

It’s been 45 years since unique power holders called “NEXT” appeared. Currently, “NEXT”s work as heroes and have sponsors and contracts in Sternbild city, working to help the citizens. Within this group of people called salarymen heroes, is the veteran hero Wild Tiger.

About Wild Tiger

To start off, please give us a simple self introduction. 

Hello! I am Wild Tiger, the one in Tiger & Barnaby who trims his beard about once every two days!

How would you describe Tiger-san’s “NEXT” powers? 

It’s called “hundred power” which can increase my physical capacity by 100 times. Not just my muscles, but my hearing, sight, everything will become 100 times strong in a bang.

Have your powers ever given you any trouble? 

When I think about it…… I struggled when my powers were awakened while I was a child. Because I couldn’t control my powers, I kept releasing it. Just by touching it, plates would shatter or desks would break… And during the night, I kept hearing trifling things so I couldn’t sleep…

Has anything changed since the power you used to be able to activate for 5 minutes changed to 1 minute? 

I’ve become more strategic about the timing in activating my powers compared to the past. Actually, I received advice from my partner (aibou) to be considerate of the timing of when I activate my powers…… Currently, I discuss with Barnaby when to activate my powers.

May I ask you what your policy is as a hero? 

It’s, “if somebody is in need of help, then help.”

Questions concerning the new season, Taibani 2

Since delivering the new season, is there anything that has changed since then? 

There is, there is! There are a lot! Cause we have the buddy system this time! Buddies are not just “1+1”, so we don’t know what will happen, and every time I’m called out on field, I’m excited!

Ah, also, our mechanic created a new suit! He said something like, “so-and-so-system”....but it feels like a suit I dreamed of as a child and it’s so cool!

Please tell us your impression of the new heroes. 

Mr. Black and He is Thomas have a cheeky energy to them, which is nice. I think I was all stuck up, not wanting to lose against the senpai, when I first started as well. Something like, I’m reminded of that when I see them. It gives me energy!

Magical Cat feels like she is still in the stages of growth, but if she follows after Dragon Kid, I think she will become an incredible hero. I’m really excited about these guys. If they ask me anything, I’ll end up answering everything.

Then, which buddy seems like they will be your rival? 

Rival is……Tiger & Barnaby. Our past selves are our rivals! Yes! I said something great just now, didn’t I~. Please, write that down as I said it.

Questions concerning moving.

May I ask questions concerning “moving”? How do you, Tiger-san, get from place to place usually? 

When we are heading to the location of an incident, as everyone is aware, I ride the side car that is connected to Barnaby’s bike. Even now, concerning the bike, he doesn’t let me drive, that Bunny……. 

Eh, private? 

For the most part I use my personal car. It’s a four wheeler. I ride it while recording a TV program or when there isn’t an incident. When I went car shopping, I fell in love at first sight, and bought it thinking that it had to be this.

Immediately after, I was so excited about my new car that my tension kept rising and rising! And I invited Rock Bison for a drive so I could brag to him about it,.......But then he! On the heel of his shoe, there was a weird round cutter like that used to slice pizza stuck to it, and he ripped through the sheet! In the end, I had to get the sheets of my new car replaced. I was so sad during that time……

Is there any music you listen to in the car? 

Not that much music. I mostly listen to the radio. No matter what, I’m curious about incidents because I am a hero. 

I often listen to programs on channels that my hero friends are on. 

Such as Fire Emblems program, Blue Roses’s……or HERO TV’s live reporter, Mario-san’s, program. When I listen to them, I think that I need to become more energetic.

Do you have any memories of vacationing? 

You don’t have many days off when you are a hero. So I’ve barely been able to go on vacations…… 

Um, this isn’t a memory of a vacation but is that fine? You know how you leave the house early when you have to go on an excursion for work? I like the highway during that time of day. When I’m driving on a faintly dark highway with barely any cars, and when the morning sun rises up, the road and sky that are showered by that sunlight is beautiful. When I see that landscape I always think, “I’m so happy I woke up early~”

To the Fans

Lastly, a word to the fans please. I think all the fans already know this, but a buddy system is implemented in the new season by HERO TV. Compared to the last season, the teamwork between partners (aibou) is even more important. 

But so many problems arise because of this…… However, I think this is a system that will help protect the safety of Sternbild even more than before so please cheer for us till the end! 

No matter when, Wild Tiger will always let out a wild roar with Barnaby!

Oh, also, it would make me happy if you all can hold back from calling me by my real name instead of Wild Tiger. But if it’s in a moment where you need to then that’s fine! And with that, see you next time!

hi! you probably get this a lot, but I got into the series just about a week or two ago and watched everything they had on netflix, i loved it a lot! i want to look at more but I'm like... 11 years late to the party and it's kind of overwhelming and confusing. where should I start? what sort of stuff is there beyond what's on netflix? (sorry if this is a silly question, but i figured you would know a lot!)

Hi! No worries, it's not a silly question at all, there's a lot of content out there! I think it depends on how invested you want to get, because there's things like the shorts, the mangas, audio dramas, and even more supplementary stuff like the novels and interviews from characters/cast/staff. I'd recommend starting out with the shorts and mangas first and see how you feel from there!

Shorts: The Side Bunny short takes place between episode 13 and 14, Side Tiger short takes place after episode 25, and the Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth short takes place after the Rising. You can download all three of them from here, provided by coolboxofcandy!

Manga: There are two main ones. Tiger & Bunny: The Comic by Ueda and Yoshida (read here) which follows canon and depicts new stories that take place early in the anime and up to the Rising. If you only read one then I'd say go for that one! Tiger & Bunny by Mizuki Sakakibara (read here) on the other hand is a little bit of an AU story, as it largely follows Barnaby's perspective and diverges a few chapters in. Both of these mangas are completed, but the Ueda manga is still in the process of being fan translated. And while the Sakakibara manga is available online up to chapter 25, it has been localized so you may have to end up purchasing volumes 7, 8, and 9 if you'd like to read the rest. Also, starting this month we'll be getting sequel mangas to both of these with season 2!

Then there are the two oneshots by Katsura (character designer) and Nishida (head writer): read here and here, and they take place sometime between episodes in the anime.

As for the rest of these, they aren't really necessary materials, but they are canon and very fun.

Drama CDs: You can download the audio thanks to coolboxofcandy here and read the translations on the Wiki here. Expect lots of shenanigans and different pairs of characters getting their share of the spotlight!

Novels: Excerpts from the novelization of The Beginning part 1 (generously reuploaded by T&Bftw), part 2, and part 3; and The Rising excerpts here. These follow the movies through the characters' POVs and gives insight to their thoughts, which the audience isn't privy to hearing in the series itself.

And interviews/etc! There have been a lot of these. ThisIsSternbild has a good collection of translations to get started with, and the Directory on this blog has a variety of other bits of translations and other miscellaneous events. Monthly Hero in my opinion is another fun one to read, as that information is from the booklets that came with the Limited Edition Blurays so they tend to relate to the episodes they came with.

Beyond all of those, I'd say it's just a matter of reading or clicking through to whatever else sounds interesting to you! Sorry this was so long, but I hope it helps! And feel free to ask if you have any more questions :)

Unique power holders called “NEXT”s who wear sponsor logos on their backs protect the peace of a city. “TIGER & BUNNY” is an anime that presents the unique work life of these heroes. This tale about the buddy heroes will return this spring in a complete, new story!

Wild Tiger, also known as Kotetsu, and Barnaby continue to work for the sake of peace and maintaining a positive image for their sponsors at Apollon Media. Apart from the two, there seems to be other familiar heroes who are also working, such as Blue Rose and Sky High. On top of that, there will be new heroes who are introduced in this new season! A new wind will blow through the metropolitan Sternbild depending on how the new heroes join. How Kotetsu and Barnaby will interact with the newbies is something to be curious about!

Super Buddy Interview: Kaburagi T. Kotetsu / Wild Tiger VA Hirata Hiroaki x Barnaby Brooks Jr. VA Morita Masakazu

Was able to naturally return back into the role without putting unnecessary effort 

—How was recording after so much time had passed?

Hirata: It didn’t feel like much time had passed. Even though it actually has been a long time since we’ve done this, I had a natural sensation of, “oh it’s started”, and I did not feel like I was putting any unnecessary effort. 

Morita: It was the same for me. I feel like after I was told that “Last week we finished making the “, I was immediately put into the production. However, Barnaby has changed and his human-ness is coming out more frequently than in the past. He always had very human-like traits from the beginning but they are now naturally showing up on his face. Concerning those bizarre changes, we had a discussion every time when recording.

—Was there any interaction or scene that made you think, “‘Taibani’ is back!”?

Hirata: It has to be the interaction between Bunny in Season 2 Episode 1. It comprehensively illustrated the sensation of, “do you citizens remember? That they are buddies of this sort,” right when they appear. 

Morita: For me personally, it was the moment I heard Hirata’s live voice say Kotetsu’s lines. I had the thought that, “I feel comfortable when I hear these lines with this voice”, and at that moment I felt the sensation that Barnaby was returning.

—In this current work, what is your impression of the new heroes?

Morita: I thought that everyone had matured. If there are any funny changes then there are serious changes, and as I immediately felt their human-ness, I was entertained when reading the script. Among them all, (Huang) Pao Lin’s development was the most interesting~.

Hirata: I acknowledge Pao Lin’s development but did Rock Bison change at all?

Morita: It’s a bit subtle but he changed too! (laughs) Something like he is more brave compared to the past.

Hirata: Is that so~? The one who had me clutching my stomach while laughing was Origami (Cyclone). I’m not sure if it’s because he had a change in character but we were able to see new parts of him that were simply not revealed in Season 1, and that was extremely entertaining.

-

I’m super new, but what about it?

You are carefully producing the world building and characters from season 1.

—How did you feel when it was decided that you would work on this as the Director?

During season 1, I was biting my fingers while I watched, thinking, “they are doing something fun” (laughs), so when it was decided that I would be the director, I was full of joyful emotions. 

—Please tell us about the things you had to be aware of concerning this series.

It was definitely the idea of not breaking the characters in this work that already has an established world building. From the perspective of a fan who watched season 1, even I had the strong emotion that “I don’t wish for that to happen”, so I decided to act properly from the very beginning. I believed that even if I protected and used that as the base while adding in new things, then something entertaining would come.

—Is there a change in Kotetsu or Barnaby?

10 years have passed since the first work, but only about half a year has passed since “The Rising”. Thus not a single hero has changed and are just as they were. Of course the bond between Kotetsu and Barnaby has gotten deeper since “The Rising”. This season is about the importance of the relationships between the heroes, so I think those who watch will be able to witness many types of bonds.

—Please tell us your opinion of the new heroes. 

Thomas Taurus (He is Thomas) goes at his own pace. He is a boy with a shadow, but as you watch the episodes, you’ll understand why. Sengoku Subaru (Mr. Black) to me is the No.1 contender for who I want to make my son. He seems like the type of kid to think most preciously of his mother, and would even tell her when it is mother’s day.

—The only girl in the group of rookies, what are your thoughts concerning Lara Tchaikoskaya (Magical Cat)?

She will also be revealed as the story progresses, but she seems to be the type that either people like or hate. But she is a very good girl, so please keep watching over her.

—I think there are many fans who are interested in knowing how they will become involved with other heroes.

To Kotetsu and Antonio, these heroes who are coming in are younger than them even beyond a single generation. So I hope people can look forward to how these guys are being tossed around by the rookies and how they create new reactions as the new heroes of a new generation.

What we asked Director Kase! What is necessary for “Buddies”?

To understand the other’s actions.

Thinking, “this person understands me”, is actually the same as not understanding the essence of who ‘this person’ is as an individual. When one fully understands the actions of the ‘this person’ and thinks, “I need to respond with this”, a catchball response continues between the two. One is also able to learn about themselves, and I think the relationship labeled as buddies can continue because of this. I would like to think that within this series, we were able to express these types of relationships between characters.

The long awaited fully new “TIGER & BUNNY 2”

Aired in 2011, “TIGER & BUNNY” drew attention for being a hero anime. (Alternative name: Taibani) Let us have a thorough, deep dive into the Taibani world that has many exhilarated fans eagerly waiting for the release of the new season.

Charm full of personality. Buddy heroes are working hard!

Unique power holders called “NEXT”s who wear sponsor logos on their backs protect the peace of a city. “TIGER & BUNNY” is an anime that presents the unique work life of these heroes. Since the first airing 11 years ago and 2 movies, season 2 is finally going to be released on Netflix. Kase Atsuko, who worked as the director, vocalizes her passionate thoughts to this upcoming series.

“When the series was first in production, I was told that they were making an interesting story. I had a thought that I wanted to participate but I had other work, so I could only bite my fingers and watch (laughs). So when I was given an offer I was overjoyed and thought “Yes!” It is truly an honor.”

The protagonist is a down on his luck, veteran hero who goes by Wild Tiger (Kotetsu T. Kaburagi) and the super rookie named Barnaby Brooks Jr.

“In the beginning, Kotetsu treated the super rookie with the thought of, “I need him to watch my back and learn as I am the senpai hero” while Barnaby thought, “I need to work hard so the old man (Kotetsu) does not drag me down.” They clash and it seems like their breath does not match, but they are concerned about the other when you look at them from a different angle. Before they know it, their existence starts to grow larger. The way the contrasting two interact is very fun and I think they are buddies with great charm.”

Besides Kotetsu and Barnaby, there are plenty of other characters with personalities. Even Director Kase said with a loud voice, “All the heroes are cool.”

“I feel like many stories that have a male protagonist usually have characters that are the actively fighting type, or characters who are malleable, and are kind and sensitive to women, but this story is not like that. Each hero has their own personality and has a variation of patterns. That is because they have “NEXT Powers” that contains its own characteristics, and incidents brought upon by these powers have shaped their personalities. Everyone is different and everyone is cool.”

Within those heroes, Director Kase’s favorite characters are Kotetsu and the resilient veteran hero Antonio Lopez.

“Kotetsu loves his only daughter so much. Being a motherless family, he feels guilty for leaving all of the child raising to his mother, but he dotes on Kaede. I think the way he also shows his fatherly features is good. I can’t get enough of Antonio’s clumsy side. Though he’s a bit of a suffocating character (laughs), his negatively sensitive side is a part of him. I love the way he has this unique atmosphere so much. What’s going to happen to Antonio~! It’s an exciting emotion I have even as an audience member (laughs).”

The new hero team that fits with the new age.

Since starting on the Gundam series, Director Kase, who has had a hand in many robot anime and hero series, hints that another charm within this series is the hero’s stance when it comes to fighting.

“I also like traditional combat stories similar to ‘Ultraman’, but these stories are about an alien who comes down to earth to protect the people by defeating a monster that is wreaking havoc. The heroes of “TIGER & BUNNY” never kill their enemies. Their goal is to stop the criminals and hand them over to the police. Anything more than that would not be forgiven and if they violate this, their qualification as a hero will be revoked. Even this “hero system” is enticing. I think the idea of not killing an enemy matches the model of our current, real-life generation of new heroes.”

This new addition was made with the hope that even first timers can experience the world of taibani with an enthusiastic push.

“The new characters will be the conductor and the series will provide an overview so one will be fine with starting from season 2. And if they find this entertaining then it would be nice if they watched season 1 or the movies. I think people will want to rewatch season 2 because of their deeper knowledge of the world.”

Point 1: 11 years since the first airing. This all new story that illustrates “the world after half a year”.

The new series that illustrates the heroes’ work life half a year after the events of the second movie, “The Rising”. The secretive movement of the crime syndicate “Ouroboros”, antagonist of season 1, is something to be interested about but…”As always, the heroes are working to maintain the peace of the city. New characters will be introduced and sublime battles will unfold so look forward to that!”

Point 2: The Veteran and the charismatic hero, the story of how the miss-matched buddies are entwined and in unison.

Even though Kotetsu and Barnaby disbanded their partnership at one point, they’ve returned as the buddy heroes. As usual, the way the two fight and banter over trivial things is something to focus on. “The two grew as buddies by being conscious of each other. Please look forward to the possible changes they will face when interacting with the new heroes or fighting against villainous characters.”

Point 3: Adding onto the heroes we are familiar with, these new characters will also participate.

In the new series, even the three new heroes, He is Thomas, Mr. Black, and Magical Cat, struggle. “Expressing their opinion to their senpai or getting too excited that they spin in circles…. However, I would like people to focus on the young heroes’ diligence. There is much to see how they will create scientific reactions when coordinating with Kotetsu and Barnaby in the beginning, and later with the senpai heroes.”

The VA’s who voice the two protagonists, Kotetsu T. Kaburagi voiced by Hirata Hiroaki and Barnaby Brooks Jr. voiced by Morita Masakazu. To the two who voice the miss-matched partners, I will begin by immediately asking what the charm of the partnership is.

Morita: The young x old man combination is a model that has been around for a while. That is why people who watch get happy together, get angry together, and cry together. I think Kotetsu and Barnaby’s ability to move hearts easily is their charm.

Hirata: Kotetsu and Barnaby are good hearted, but they are not exempted from having faults as people. I like how human they are. And the age difference that Morita-kun mentioned. If there is a difference in generation then there has to be conflict. I think it’s entertaining how they don’t perfectly fit together. But the reason why they don’t stray far from each other is because they are both drawn to each other, think preciously [of each other], and feel that when they are a set they become more powerful. They are a great combination for they make the viewers interject with, “these two are at it again…” while also being unable to leave them alone.

Morita: The way they collide is fun. They are completely like water and oil and will never fully homogenize, but they are perfectly touching at the border. That is Kotetsu and Barnaby and possibly what makes them satisfying.

What are the highlights of the great combination’s exciting activity for season 2?

Morita: What I got when reading the script was that it felt like we returned to the flavor of “TIGER & BUNNY”’s first segment. I feel that this is a story where the thoughts of the past characters are directly conveyed. Because he also experienced life with Kotetsu-san, the Barnaby who I act, has developed into a character that is more human-like. That is a focal point.

Hirata: I think a charm of the series is how there are human drama-like elements beyond the action parts where the heroes fight the villains. What kind of problem will arise and how they will grow to overcome them. I want people to look forward to that.

Morita: This is a series with entertaining human relations and psychology after all. This time we will have heroes younger than Barnaby. I think a highlight is also how they interact with the new heroes.

The important point of the new season is to be young and have energy!?

By the way, I am interested in the relationship between the two of you who act the buddy roles.

Morita: “TIGER & BUNNY” is my first appearance with Hirata-san. He is an elite senpai (within the field), so I was extremely nervous in the beginning.

Morita: Yes I was— (laughs). Even though I was nervous, the me before the anime aired 10 years ago was energetically vigorous so I had the strong emotion of, “I’m gonna do this, you—!” I do think I was putting too much strength and was spinning in circles in certain areas. But when I watched Hirata-san in his natural state, I also began to relax.

Hirata: My impression of Morita-kun is… (for several seconds the silence continues)

Morita: Nothing! (laughs)

Hirata: Morita-kun is surprisingly stubborn. He has strong preferences. Because he’s such a passionate man, I think that acting Barnaby would be difficult for him. Barnaby has many psychological restrictions after all.

Morita: I’ve been caught. How incredible of you. I’m learning a lot by closely watching a great senpai as he is recording. One usually imagines someone who is cool when they hear ‘hero’, but Kotetsu is an old man. When Hirata-san acts the character turns into a proper old man, but within him a proper hero exists. Even though he is crude, that’s what makes him arguably cool. I think it’s an exquisite balance. Even the smallest sigh was so raw in its realism as I keenly realized that, “an old man does sound like this.” That was the moment I recognized the difference in skill…. Is me trying to give praise (laughs).

Hirata: You’re just saying random stuff. I won’t say anything!

Morita: Ahahahaha!!

Even the way you two breath is in unison despite there being a gap between now and the last release. Within the series, you have revealed how in unison the two of you are, but apparently there were some struggles during recording!?

Hirata: Since much time hasn’t passed within the timeline of this series, I wasn’t worried when it came to acting; thinking that it will be the same as the previous works, I acted out the Kotetsu that I thought was fitting. However I was told by the sound director to, “be more energetic.”

Morita: Basically, the two of us were requested to be “energetic” (laughs).

Hirata: In the beginning, I thought that the director may have misunderstood that, because the recording session was taking place first thing in the morning, the reason for my low tension was because I was sleepy, but that wasn’t the case…

Morita: What they wanted was, “more younger” and said it as, “more energetic.” I didn’t feel it, but I thought that a thing called age has finally caught up (laughs).

Hirata: I can’t watch from a viewer’s perspective so I don’t know, but I didn’t get the sense of old age from Morita-kun either.

Morita: I didn’t feel it from either Hirata-san or I. But since the sound director’s ears are dependable, when I hear them say OK, my tone went up several octaves. It was tough, acting like that first thing in the morning (laughs).

The side relationships with the Taibani fans, who are full of love, is pleasant.

From the way emotions are expressed and the words that are shared, the Taibani love comes from every corner. To you two, I wonder what sort of existence “TIGER & BUNNY” is.

Hirata: I have had the pleasure of appearing in numerous works, but there aren’t any other works where I feel the immense power of the fans, as well as the distance between us to be so small. Above all, Taibani fans are exuberant while also being well-mannered. For example, even if they couldn’t get a product they wanted to purchase at an event because it is sold out, they’ll say, “congratulations” to those who were able to. The fans like to enjoy themselves by acting as the citizens of Sternbild, saying things like, purchasing official goods counts as “taxes”. I think the relationship between the fans is also pleasant.

Morita: I agree. Just saying this feels weird, but to me, “TIGER & BUNNY” is an important series. I often act out characters who slay and punch, but characters like Barnaby who are sensitive are rare, so this is important to me for it was an opportunity that broadened my acting, but I also like the crudeness that flows out of this series. This anime was originally aimed for hardworking salary men so of course it’s crude, but for some reason it struck a chord with the women… Still mysterious even today (laughs).

Hirata: Yeah. Each current character has their own particular charm, but are their elements of moe? It sure is a mystery—
