^ this also, in a big way. like i think when people (incorrectly imo) identify something like star wars as scifi its because theres a tendency to mistake setting or even certain aesthetic features for genre. i love space opera as a name because it states exactly what it is: its a story with an operatic sort of narrative structure and overall level of drama, which happens to be in space. nothing else is promised.

space operas can also be scifi i think, but they arent always. itd be like saying any movie set in the west is automatically a western.
