i think that kishimoto is certainly capable of writing women (and to pretend otherwise feels like i'm giving him a get out of jail free card or something), but the issue is that he gives them so little narrative attention that it feels like he doesn't? like sakura, hinata and tsunade in particular are probably who i'd pinpoint as "the best written" female naruto characters in terms of having a clear character arc, but so much of their development - particularly sakura, but this is definitely applicable to the other two - occurs throughout the background of the story that it doesn't feel like it's happening, or is given the attention it deserves.

like, all three of them have certain moments that definitely trigger their growth to occur - sakura in the forest of death, hinata's fight with neji, and the search for tsunade arc in general for tsunade - and they all have significant moments that showcase this growth - sakura's fights with ino and sasori, hinata's attempt to fight pain knowing that she'll lose, and the closing of the search for tsunade arc where she overcomes her fear and decides to become hokage. but because either the context required for these moments to hit as hard as they do or the smaller showcases of their character development - or both - are so subtly placed throughout the background of the story that you kind of have to search for them. to give more examples yet again, it requires the audience to realise that sakura and ino's rivalry was never really just over sasuke, and to acknowledge her insecurities and desperate need to fit in with the others in order to understand her motivations and why her decisions in the forest of death are important. if she was a male character, we would have had gratuitous flashbacks placed in every goddamn chapter reminding the audience of these motivations which would really hammer it in, but because she isn't, it the context behind her decisions and growth is left to fade into the background.

this post has just been me rambling so i hope that it makes some semblance of sense but i don't know how else to word this lmao

i know some narusaku fans were upset that Naruto never got to tell her his feelings so he can move on but he probably did? Sakura mentions it in the last so he probably did confess to her and got rejected by her during the in between period.

but that's just a narusaku headcanon a lot of those fans have, in my opinion i thing he didn't even confess to her as he saw how much Sakura loved Sasuke long ago and started to naturally fall Hinata during the Great Ninja War.

Sakura mentioned in „the last“ that Naruto never really loved her. It was just a "competition" between him and sasuke. Naruto also did not want to lose to sasuke in terms of "love". Both were always competing to see who was better, even to the point that Sakura's attention was involved. I should also mentioned that both sasuke and naruto starving for love. Also naruto and Sakura act like siblings. Sakura said in „Sakura Hiden“ that Naruto always act like her big brother when sasuke gives her „trouble“ (like in she’s worried for his well-being)

Tsuande said in the same novel that Naruto would with a girl like Sakura they would punches some heads in the whole village. Hinata on the other hand calms him down and helped him grow into are man (<- Naruto said that to her, hinata, also in the „last“ that she made him a men)

Oh god. I can talk HOURS about how much they meant for each other.

Naruto liked Hinata before. Maybe it was quite love until the „pain arc“ but he definitely hold her dear. But the same goes for sasuke. He also loved her (Sakura) during genin time (sasuke va stated that sasuke only realized that after the fight with Naruto).

I’ll think both Naruto and sasuke loved their girls. Just needed the right push to realized that.

Apart from Sasuhina, the fic explores one of my favorite concepts from Naruto, which I think was simply not executed well. The concept of Infinite Tsukuyomi.

This is such a bold concept. I think the fact that we create Naruto art and fan fiction despite several years down the line suggests the important of fantasy that Madara couldn't sell that well 😂

The fact that we're obsessed with stories over real life is also just Tsukuyomi for me.
