Jocelyn Binder by Caleb Chic for Auto Show Magazine, September 2021
"Now, I want all of you to sit with your partners and write down three topics on a sheet of paper. I'll collect it at the end of class and give you the approved topic." The students do as the teacher says. Cassia and Jocelyn don't have to do anything because they are partners.
"I'll see you guys soon."
"Tell me if he says anything." Cassia's sure she sounds like her mother right now. Aspen smiles and nods his head, leaving his two friends to join the idiot jerk on the other side of the classroom.
"You think he'll be fine?" Jocelyn worryingly asks as she takes her binder out from her backpack to get a piece of loose-leaf.
"Yeah."
"I hope so."
"Let's focus on the stupid project, Jocelyn," Cassia says with a sigh, resting her chin on her hand as she glances over at Aspen. They look uncomfortable with each other, the blond boy not knowing what to do while Randell plays with a pencil. The child looks away and tries to come up with some kind of topic. They settle on doing something with poetry; they don't know if they would want to write one or maybe take an old poem and modernize it. Cassia looks over at Aspen and Randell; to see the two boys smiling and laughing.
Ew.
