no shade meant here at all, but i am literally not even american and even i understand that biden’s ability to Do Something is extremely limited because of the political systems which are in place to prevent a president from becoming dictatorial, so i really do not understand why whenever anything horrendous happens the response is ‘biden seems to have forgotten he is president’ when like. he can’t just enact shit without it passing through congress.
his anger and expression of ‘something must be done’ is basically him yelling at GOP senators and representatives who are the sole reason that legislation for tighter gun laws keeps getting blocked at any possible turn. it’s fucked up, and it’s shitty, but the reality is that as a president, biden’s power is extremely limited and overall - from an abstract political perspective - that is actually a good thing, but that does mean that right now yeah!! he is very limited in what he can do!! the US is a democracy, not a dictatorship, and unfortunately there are far too many elected officials within the senate and the house of representatives who are armpits deep in NRA cash and do not give enough of a shit to try and fix this situation. biden is not perfect, but acting as though he is the biggest problem rn and he is the ‘only solution’ to this nightmare is not only untrue, but it actively encourages the thinking of “even democrats aren’t on our side, they’re no different to the GOP” which *gestures at congress* is just utter bullshit
