I’m incorporating bits and pieces as I find them. Batsy is a complicated character with a long history, and not everything is going to vibe with me, but I’ll list the major pieces of his characterization that I’m taking.
Most importantly: Bruce Wayne is Jewish. His mother, Martha Kane, was Jewish, and he was raised Jewish. His current atheism does not negate that he is matrilineally Jewish. This is canon, though widely ignored canon.
I don’t like the Court of Owls storyline and will not engage with it. For anyone curious, here’s a great breakdown of the antisemitism in the storyline.
I also do not acknowledge anything written by Grant Morrison. Their racist treatment of Talia and Damian would be reason enough, but I also generally don’t think they write a good Bruce (Arkham Asylum was bland and that Bruce was not Bruce. The art was gorgeous though). I will be following Son of the Demon’s origin for Damian instead. This is a Talia-friendly blog and I will keep a Talia-friendly dashboard.

SHIPPING Bruce is easy to ship with if it’s meant to be temporary, but a lot harder to ship with when it comes to any sort of commitment. He falls in love often and hard, and then he self-sabotages. A serious relationship, involving Bruce sharing his secret identity, will take plotting, but I’m very open to it.
It’s also worth noting that I do not & will not ship Bruce with the Joker or the Riddler, especially the Riddler from the 2022 film. This is also a Batcest-unfriendly blog.

CHARACTERIZATION I think that sexy mysterious confident Bruces are well represented in this batcosystem. I prefer to write Bruce focusing on him being very weird and very much a dad.

BATMAN A combination of preboot & reboot plot and characterization, especially carrying over the events of Birth of the Demon, The Long Halloween, No Man’s Land, and Murderer? & Fugitive. After the death of his parents, young Bruce Wayne struggles to live with his grief. A desire for revenge as a young man grows into a desire for justice, which grows into an instinct for mercy. Bruce becomes Batman, a masked vigilante determined to protect Gotham at any cost to himself.
TITANS AU based in Titans (2018-present). After the death of his son Jason, Bruce’s grief overwhelms him, and he kills the Joker in Arkham Asylum before fleeing the country. Saved by Donna Troy from a suicide attempt, Bruce returns to Gotham to find that Jason is alive. Having given up the cowl, Bruce settles in to train his other sons in the hopes that they might one day take up the Batman identity, certain that they’ll protect Gotham in his stead, and to help Jason settle in as Red Hood, Gotham’s new hero.
FUTURE STATE AU based in the Future State series (2021). After the “death” of Bruce Wayne (greatly exaggerated, for anyone curious), Bruce lives under the radar, watching as Jace Fox takes up the cowl and trying to protect Gotham from the Magistrate and the Peacekeepers. Without access to the Batcave, any of his technology or resources, or the Batman identity, Bruce is forced to work entirely on his own, operating under the alias Jeff Marks.
