    Siblings day 25

Robb didn't even have the sense to realize how stupid she was; he was grinning like a fool. -Jon AGOT

He's going to marry her," little Beth said dreamily, hugging herself. "Then Sansa will be queen of all the realm."- Arya AGOT

And Arya … he missed her even more than Robb, skinny little thing that she was, all scraped knees and tangled hair and torn clothes, so fierce and willful. - Jon AGOT

but Rickon is not quite sure - cat AGOT

Bran was standing over him with upraised wooden sword, ready to whack him again once he regained his feet. - Arya AGOT

hideous, and he looked as though he might have lice. If this was what the Night's Watch was truly like, she felt sorry for her bastard half brother, Jon. - Sansa AGOT

Sansa (Society) ☼ Arya (Wilderness) ☾

But his sister had left the wilds, to walk in the halls of man-rock where other hunters ruled, and once within those halls it was hard to find the path back out. (Bran I, ASOS)

Sansa is a society child. She approaches the world through narrative. She thinks in terms of songs and stories, both in regards to the world around her and in regards to herself. When presented with the social infrastructure of Westeros’ patriarchy, she adheres to it and thrives within it. She doesn’t question it, but when she encounters things that don’t align with what she’s been taught, she will adjust the narratives to meet her needs. Sansa represents the refined femininity of upper-class society: pretty embroidery, music, dancing, fancy dresses and courtly intrigue.

She was strong and swift and fierce, and her pack was all around her, her brothers and her sisters. They ran down a frightened horse together, tore its throat out, and feasted. And when the moon broke through the clouds, she threw back her head and howled. (Arya V, ASOS)

Arya is a free spirit. She has a "wildness" in her and the "wolf blood". She is the child society has no place for, so she carves out her own existence in the world, as opposed to adhering to its narrow expectations of her. She fundamentally questions societal infrastructures because she is someone who, despite being born into nobility, is still rejected by her society due to not accepting the role given to her based on her gender. Arya's femininity manifests in the natural. Her beauty is found in her wildness. She represents the moon, water, she-wolves, pack life, and the very earth itself.

You may be as different as the sun and the moon, but the same blood flows through both your hearts. (Arya II, AGOT)

Sansa is a summer child, where things are beautiful and bright and full of songs and stories, all things associated with the luminescence of the sun. And if Sansa is the sun, Arya is the moon. In Arya's story, the moon is symbolically attached to her identity, her wildness, her magic, her femininity and her skills. And like the moon, Arya exists in opposition to society and thrives.

You need her, as she needs you. (Arya II, AGOT)

As winter approaches, and the days get shorter and the nights grow longer, Sansa (and society) will have to adjust to a long winter and a long night where the main source of light is the moon, which is Arya’s sovereignty. The night is where Arya's magic reigns supreme, and she is destined to play an instrumental part in the war for the dawn, as it is a war of wilderness and can’t be won in courts and politics. But after the war is over, both Arya and Sansa, as wilderness and society, must come together to rebuild in the spring.

    Sansa Stark Month 2022 - Day 25 - Siblings

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives. Summer is the time for squabbles. In winter, we must protect one another, keep each other warm, share our strengths.

The way Arya stans have such little empathy for Jeyne Poole's plight is disgusting. It's made worse by how they make Jeyne's trauma all about Arya. I hate it more than the way they diminish Sansa's.

Like for example, there's a scene where just before Jeyne marries Ramsey, she tells Theon that unlike Arya, she's pretty. Arya stans fail to realize that the focus isn't on Arya. It isn't about Jeyne's past teasing of Arya. It's about the fact that Jeyne knows full well that if the Boltons managed to get a hold of the real Arya (or Sansa for that matter), they would kill Jeyne without a second thought. In Jeyne's mind the only thing protecting her is that she's pretty. Therefore, if she's pretty, Ramsay won't care that she's not actually a Stark and therefore the Bolton hold on Winterfell is bogus. It's very similar to Sansas thoughts on Willas. Sansa hopes that if Willas finds her beautiful/falls in love with her, he won't care about her claim to Winterfell.

Anyway Arya stans are trash (not all) and Jeyne Poole is just one of the reasons why

Jeyne is literally offering herself up to Theon as his "wife or whore" in a last desperate attempt to escape this horrific situation. She is terrified. She is trying to find anything to give herself hope.

The bride raised her eyes. Brown eyes, shining in the candlelight. “I will be a good wife to him, and t-true. I … I will please him and give him sons. I will be a better wife than the real Arya could have been, he’ll see.”
Talk like that will get you killed, or worse. That lesson he had learned as Reek. “You are the real Arya, my lady. Arya of House Stark, Lord Eddard’s daughter, heir to Winterfell.” Her name, she had to know her name. “Arya Underfoot. Your sister used to call you Arya Horseface.”
“It was me made up that name. Her face was long and horsey. Mine isn’t. I was pretty.”
Tears spilled from her eyes at last. “I was never beautiful like Sansa, but they all said I was pretty. Does Lord Ramsay think I am pretty?”
“Yes,” he lied. “He’s told me so.”
“He knows who I am, though. Who I really am. I see it when he looks at me. He looks so angry, even when he smiles, but it’s not my fault. They say he likes to hurt people.”  (......)
“Help me.” She clutched at him. “Please. I used to watch you in the yard, playing with your swords. You were so handsome.” She squeezed his arm. “If we ran away, I could be your wife, or your … your whore … whatever you wanted. You could be my man.”
    (ADWD, The Prince of Winterfell)

Anyone who zeroes in on "she called Arya Horseface! She is a BULLY!" instead of the visceral terror felt by this child in mortal danger... needs to take a step back and reasses if they really think the author is giving a flying horseshoe about Arya’s petty childhood nickname in this scene. As opposed to depicting a human being caught in a horrible trap, grasping at straws for any shred of hope.

“I can serve this purpose if I try. I can give him sons. Does Ramsay think I am pretty? Might this save me? He likes to hurt people. Could anyone or anything save me?”

It’s heart-wrenching. GRRM wants to remind us that these were all children together at Winterfell, with petty childhood conflicts that pale in comparison to the horrors they are all going through now.

At Winterfell they had called her "Arya Horseface" and she'd thought nothing could be worse, but that was before the orphan boy Lommy Greenhands had named her "Lumpyhead." (ACOK, Arya I)

Literally the opening of her first chapter after her father is murdered. If a nine-year-old can put things in perspective, an adult reading a novel about her should be able to do so as well.

    Sansa Appreciation Month

    Prompt Siblings

Notes. This one was fun although I argued with myself constantly on who to put opposite each sibling.

The reason I placed Arya against D is because at one point I truly believed that Arya would be the one to kill her after D used her weapons of mass destruction to keep Jon from having to do it.

    Arya Month 2022 || Day 25: Family - Robb

"I can be strong too. I can be as strong as Robb." -- Arya II, AGOT

"So you say, but might be the boy knows something we don't, maybe it's us ought to be run . . ." Yes, Arya thought. Yes, it's you who ought to run, you and Lord Tywin and the Mountain and Ser Addam and Ser Amory and stupid Ser Lyonel whoever he is, all of you better run or my brother will kill you, he's a Stark, he's more wolf than man, and so am I. -- Arya VIII, ACOK

    Day 24: Kindness and Compassion

Arya might just be one of the kindest and most compassionate characters in the whole series. Her kindness, compassion, and empathy are rivaled only by Dany’s, which I am hoping is something they can bond over. They also serve as a foil to Sansa’s selfishness, apathy, and bullying. There are so many moments when Arya shows her sweetness. Let’s start with the fact that she makes friends with everyone. As mentioned in Sansa’s first chapter, Arya makes friends with everyone regardless of their social status. Arya doesn’t care if someone is poor or smelly or ugly like Mycah is described. She still willingly befriends him. And she doesn’t hesitate to protect him from the evil Joffrey. Arya is on such good terms with the people of Winterfell that she was given the nickname ”Arya Underfoot”.

Arya also shows her kindness in her relationship with Sansa, showing compassion that Sansa doesn’t deserve given her cruelty and bullying. Still, Arya apologizes when they get into fights and even tries to comfort Sansa when they are leaving Winterfell. But Sansa throws Arya’s compassion back in her face. Here’s hoping Arya doesn’t bother showing compassion to Sansa if they reunite.

Arya refuses to leave her friend Weasel behind despite Lommy and Hot Pie telling her she should. She also saves Jaqen and Rorge and Biter even though the latter two are psychopaths. And when the barn is burning she shows compassion and sadness for the poor animals burning.

Arya also shows kindness to Lady Smallwood when she gives Arya a dress and Arya accidentally rips it. She says the dress was pretty. But Lady Smallwood kindly tells Arya that she is pretty too and advises her to be brave.

These are just a few of the many examples showing Arya’s kindness and compassion. She stands out for being one of the kindest characters in the series.

me: arya is supposed to be beautiful, but not traditionally so. beautiful doesn't have to mean looking like a perfect doll, and in fact it's important to her narrative that arya doesn’t look perfect despite actually being pretty.

people who refuse to read and decided to be angry the second they saw the words "arya" and "beautiful" in the same paragraph: so you HATE arya? you think she's an ugly worthless sack of worms?? you think strong girls can't be pretty???you HATE women??!?! can't stand you fucking vapid stansas

#chill out jesus christ #apparently saying that there's more than one type of beauty is horribly offensive to some of you #love arya to death but apparently you're only allowed to say you like if you think she's deoid of all flaw #asoiaf #a song of ice and fire #anti arya stans

i was thinking about this before .... but since sansa has been drilled to think that arya = bad (aka, anything arya does is Wrong and Will Get Her Into Trouble so sansa needs to be not like her, and should double down on degrading arya / positioning herself as Different From Arya As Possible), in terms of, like ... basic narrative development sansa should, eventually, come to the opposite conclusion. instead of being scolded for being as willful as arya, sansa should start thinking i need to be as willful as arya.
along the same lines ... sansa has picked the south over the north / her family two times already (the trident situation and when she went to cersei about ned planning their departure), which means there needs to be a third where she actively chooses the north and her family over the south (i imagine this will have to do with baelish).
in conclusion: sansa should start wielding her Big Sister Aura and become the biggest hype man for all of her siblings, but especially arya, thank you for your time.
#*ooc. #//////////// FUCK arya being in a position inferior to sansa when throughout their whole childhood it was always like that #///////// let arya rule and sansa cheer her on from the sidelines in. like. a cottage she lives in #//// bc FUCK COURT LIFE sansa has had ENOUGH

    The Sun and the Moon

"You may be as different as the sun and the moon, but the same blood flows through both your heart"

Alayne Stone and No One navigating the world trying to be reborn as their old self with the strength and memories of winterfell.

The stark sisters in their strength and their longing for home, I hope their reunion goes on to be very heartwarming, after all they've been through they deserve to be again reunited and strong together.

I low-key hate Arya's face on this one, it certainly does not resemble a child but living and learning I guess.
