“Mmm, Grif… you know what?” he asked when he eased back onto Grif’s body.
“What?”
“You’re my BOYFRIEND~” Simmons said, notes of pride and tenderness combining in his voice. He stroked Grif’s face playfully one finger going up and down Grif’s cheek, curling under the chin. Grif made a garbled noise, as if somebody had started tickling him, and he was unable to speak… but it was an unmistakably a happy noise. He felt his cheeks heat up, and he tried to squirm away, as if he could somehow hide FROM Simmons by wiggling farther UNDERNEATH Simmons

They both sighed once more, Simmons moving to lay back on the bed, and Grif easily following him. Their legs linked together as their heads sunk into the pillows. They still hadn’t spoken… but Grif was tracing the edge of Simmons’ jaw with his thumb, while Simmons rested his hand on Grif’s chest. Almost like they were playing a game, they could both guess what the other was thinking, all sorts of compliments and endearments shared through expressions and body language. They even knew the sound of their voices so well, they could practically hear each other. It made them giggle again, and they snuggled closer, hugging until it passed.
“Hey Grif…” Simmons finally said, looking him in the eyes.
“Hmm?” Grif made a little curious noise.
“You know what?”
“What?”
“You’re my HUSBAND~” Simmons grinned at him.
Grif choked on his own laughter, burying his face into Simmons’ shoulder

One by one, the babies blinked their eyes shut, and the fathers finally climbed into bed. Grif slid across the mattress, letting Simmons snuggle up next to him, before turning off the light. It felt so good, knowing that this bed was theirs, this home was theirs, the people visiting were their family, and right beside them slept their children. The very strange life they had finally reached a point where things were arguably “stable”, allowing them to properly enjoy it… so many things they once wished for but thought were impossible, and even more things they never even knew they wanted.
“Grif, you know what?” Simmons whispered in the dark.
“What?”
“We’re DADS~”
Grif rolled over, half-way on top of Simmons, so he could press his face into the crook of Simmons’ neck, unable to stop the gleeful giggles from escaping. This eventually just turned into cuddling, and Grif had another moment when it hit him hard; how something so soft and simple felt extraordinary. Married life, starting a family… it was hardly unusual. However, after the nonsensically complicated events of their lives? What an unexpected result. It was also one that neither man cared to change in the slightest

(at some point I just decided that during all the major relationship milestones, Simmons absolutely feels the need to point them out, as if he’s bragging all smug to the same man who he is literally in the relationship with. I also evidently decided that Grif’s reaction is to get all gleefully bashful about it, and then he’s embarrassed about being bashful, but still doesn’t want to stop cuddling the man he loves~)
