Next up in my “watching TV shows and movies with characters that are supposedly similar to me”:
Promising Young Woman (2020) ...
While I do feel very much called out, I’m also so honoured and grateful that Cassie came up in my test results, because she is an amazing character and I love this film.
Some spoilers below - if you haven’t seen it, just stop reading and go watch it ^^
Spoiler alert, but Cassie breaks my heart, because while I guess it could have been morally justified if she had physically hurt or even killed people after what happened to her friend Nina, she doesn’t. She threatens people and teaches them a lesson. And she forgives them if they show genuine remorse. She even makes a valiant effort to move on - however, there is no escape from the thing that happened. And in the end, she and Nina get their revenge in a bittersweet, literally death defying way. (I cried then and I’m tearing up now again ...)
The film looks really good, the compositions kind of blew my mind, and it has like the best soundtrack.
It’s a bit baffling to me, though, that apparently writer and director Emerald Fennel had originally written the story to end with Cassie’s death, and Al getting away with that, too, and it was the producers who pointed out that “somebody as meticulous as Cassie would not put herself in such a dangerous situation and not have a contingency plan”. :/
