18. If they could live or visit anywhere, where would they go?

this whole big world and the answer is so deeply "the palace at the center of the weeping city"....i'm told to commit to a hook and i do it. i think she'd also like to see the Aori Necessity tho, once she's solved every mystery of the weeping city. is this because i want to see it? yes.

9. How do they like their mornings? Rainy and chilly? Bright and sunny? Not at all because they don’t wake until noon?

right NOW she just likes them "not snowing" and "as warm as possible". generally she's a big fan of the sunshine though :]

28. If they could change their class(es), would they? To what?

sigh yeah this one's IMPOSSIBLE. the thing is she'd like to have a higher hit die but also she'd like to have the best teleport spells possible. i could see her wanting to be a paladin, honestly, because that's a lot of what she respects, but they're not good enough at getting out of situations. and it's like. despite everything, despite the fact that it's consuming her, despite the fact that being a sorcerer is why she lost everything, she's never hated her magic! her magic is what saved her and its hers, not externalized!

so anyway. short answer no she would not! she just would like to be a higher level sorcerer <3

28. If they could change their class(es), would they? To what?

oh, sorcerer. sorcerer in a heartbeat. to have magic that was hers, that was in her blood and that she could channel and manipulate and that didn't belong to anyone else? that made HER unique and powerful and special and irreplaceable? yeah.

37. What is their sleep/trance like?

sob i've been playing this character for almost a year and a half and i'm just now realizing that she sure was a half-elf raised entirely by elves. when she was younger she slept fitfully and not quite enough, the one person she knew who couldn't get by on a four hour trance, but she's lived on the material plane long enough now that she's shaken that habit. she still is a pretty light sleeper though i think. that's the moon elf in her

4. Who was their childhood hero?

oh, her mom for sure. also her dad, but like, specifically the cool versions of her dad that she'd invent because her mom wouldn't talk about where he really was or give her anything more than little details. and also marion, the cool older girl from her village who was probably also her first crush. and also. y'know. the god queen!

10. When did their childhood end?

so at least THIS version of marigold is established to have been orphaned at a pretty young age, i think probably like 8? so in a lot of ways then :( but i also think that the older street urchins looked after her and made sure she wasn't ever completely abandoned, and so in some ways she was still a kid. and in those same ways she still is!

30. How does the sunset make them feel?

thrilled :D night is when exciting things happen! and night's where she feels most comfortable, sticking to the shadows, using her experience to her advantage. she loves to see the sun go down

20. What did they dream of “growing up” to be?

:(! her like. BIG dream especially when she was little was getting to travel, which is really something because she sure is traveling now and she sure is just aching to NOT be doing that! i think she dreamed of being some sort of traveling messenger or a merchant or something like that. or even, especially after esme was taken, a soldier! but especially after her mom died she had sort of settled into the idea of just staying in her village, taking over the shop that she worked at, getting married, maybe having kids if the war really did happen and was over and arborea was stable and healthy....

40. What sets them free?

BOY i wish i knew,

i. yeah no really i think that the answer to this question is something the campaign is trying to figure out. magic, maybe. that's the closest i can get. magic or power, which are kind of the same thing, and definitely not love.

6. How does your character express that they’re uncomfortable?

her body gets tense! tightening her jaw, clenching her fists. if she's shaking that means things are really bad. also wrapping her arms around herself or sitting all scrunched up. she also does a fair bit of stepping back, putting physical distance between herself and whatever's making her uncomfortable. but it's pretty much all physical, i can't think of anything verbal.

30. What never gets old for your character? Something your character can’t get enough of?

oh good one...hm. healing, i think, she genuinely loves doing it. she also really does cherish good food and beds to sleep on and warm clothes, i'm really excited for her to get to pista for those reasons in particular. she can't get enough of physical contact with her loved ones, also, unless she's intentionally holding herself back from them. and if maximo wasn't there she'd have stayed in that gaseous form for the full duration.

53. What does freedom mean to them?

man i really got stuck on this one for a while. in terms of like "what represents freedom", i think a lot of it is very physical for her, like, the choice of how to move her body, the very literal "i'm not in a cell, so i'm free"--she knows that's not actually true, but it certainly makes it easier to stomach floaroma. but the choice of how to use her magic is part of this, too. grimacing emoji. in terms of "how much does freedom mean to them", it means a lot! it really really does mean a lot but also at least for now freedom is a lower priority than survival and safety--although i know that would be different if she didn't have people to protect.

man but at the end of the day, the nice thing about playing cerise is even with something like this, as long as it works that means she was right,

AH just realized I think this is the first time that elliot's been the one to present a plan and have cerise just go "yeah, you're right, that's what we'll do." slamming my head into the wall.

again i’m saying the crop situation is really really awful,

whatever it takes! over and over again I've said cerise will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. I'm going to jump into the ocean <3

crop for the past year has just been a steady cycle of me firmly telling myself that i can’t expect to save esme and i’m going to be so hinged about it when she dies and then throwing that all out the window as soon as i talk to her

5. Which of your d&d characters has been the most like you?

elodie was definitely the most like me when i created her, and she probably still is the closest, but the longer i've played her the more she's developed as her own character and the further she's gotten from being Me. cerise is honestly way more similar to me than she SHOULD be considering the uh. everything about her. and then she's an npc and the similarities are easier to see bc it's a game in the real world but beck motw also deserves to be on this list

6. Which of your d&d characters has been the least like you?

there's oneshot characters who are the easy answer but in terms of real characters it's actually probably jess? her 20 cha and boldness and flirtatiousness is about as different from me as you can get. rowan is up here too, but especially lately rowan has been taking on more of this like..."fake it til you make it but we're all going to make it together" thing going on that's moved the needle more in the "similar to me" direction. and then honestly it's a bit soon to say but i think my crop bonus guy is gonna end up taking this one in the end, especially if i do it right

19. How did you discover D&D?

:] i'd played a lotr ttrpg with my family through middle school and high school, and then my friends and i went together to check out ttrpg club at the beginning of freshman year of college, didn't really vibe with anyone there, leaned into our little huddle and went "i bet we could just do this ourselves" and then we did! with dungeons and dragons fourth edition bc that was the edition that our friend owned the books for even tho fifth edition had been out for 3 years at this point--

4. What has been your favorite d&d character you’ve played? (NPCs count for DMs)

oh pleading emoji...i love them all but it's cerise my bestie my babygirl my beloved my cherry tree divine soul sorcerer. i love her so much i love her backstory i love her mechanics i love writing her i love being 18 cha 16 int i love her like...motivations. it's such a delight to play a character who is like. "the point of me is to protect these specific people. i have other things i'm interested in, other goals, other things i'd like to do but none of them compare to just keeping them alive" but then in order to DO that she'll do or be basically anything she needs to...man. she's a delight. it's been a week since i've played her and that's too long.

8. What is the most memorable natural 20 you’ve ever experienced?

i got this one already so i'll do another one :D my valor bard, alita, who was chosen to wield this sacred prophecy sword, spent two combats not making a single attack and then on her very first attack with the sword crit against the person who had been torturing her friends and was holding them hostage. and she did 69 damage :D

15. Do you prefer to DM or play?

i like playing :] dming is very satisfying but it's also exhausting and a lot of pressure, but playing is just getting to be a little guy :] getting to experience a story :] getting to hang out with my friends :]

23. Do you have any art of your characters?

i do!!!! and MAN this is making me wish i had a specific tag for it but i found this one of my bard alita (https://explorerspack.tumblr.com/post/664698083235495936/sofhtie-drew-my-valor-bard-alita-for-my) that my friend nicki drew for me :] there are others also but i don't want to hunt for them,

42. Have you ever rolled turn into a potted plant on the wild magic table?

HA no i have not personally, BUT, in my first 5e campaign our wild magic sorcerer once rolled the "roll on the wild magic surge table every turn" one and on one of those she was turned into a potted plant. she also turned blue, aged two years, and grew several inches. incidentally this also saved us from a probable tpk

anyway i finished with all my little stats and i was right, cerise is the only living pc who’s taken more damage than she’s dealt. feeling sooooooo hinged about it.

really. feeling something about how at the point when cami and cerise had their first fight about cerise leaving the city, the "you don't get to pretend that this isn't your war" fight, cerise had dealt 85 damage in the campaign and camille had dealt 358.

man cerise talking to sico right now feels really insane,

made a little list for myself of all the times cerise has used her bone armor so i could get an idea of how much the runes have spread and. man. sometimes i think i play her as too stable,

was looking for something old in the crop server and found when sico rolled a nat 20 insight on cerise talking about her home village, like, right after she’d been introduced, before we even got to rhest, and i said the nat 20 got him “guilt at leaving, and that she’s pretty sure no matter what happens she’s never going home again” and i. jesus christ,

really obsessed with cerise dirty 20 and then nat 20 for a 24 insight on petal, dirty 20 intelligence insight to know we're short on supplies, 17 intelligence insight to infer the political/war repercussions of a single statement, and then as SOON as she has to roll insight on her brother she has advantage and still ends up with a 12...so true avrae I guess....

also man. enough time has passed since uberta that i feel like i can say now. jesus fucking christ i’m so glad cerise wasn’t there,

1. what is their coffee shop order?

largest iced coffee possible with several extra shots of espresso and pumps of flavor, different every time.

17. when were they the most angry that they’ve ever been?

her backstory isn't super fleshed out but a big part of jess's Deal is that she's from a biiiiiiig city and runs in shady circles where powerful spellcasters and entities have no problem throwing their magical weight around to bully and humiliate and take advantage of people who don't have access to that kind of power, so definitely something connected to that. watching her friend's pottery that he was trying to sell get used as a Catapult component in a frivolous duel or having a powerful wizard use telekinesis to shove her out of his way or having to take insults from an asshole sorcerer that she knows could obliterate her with a flick of their fingers. so it was SOMEthing like that.

20. describe a favorite roleplaying moment with this character

i think the very recent moment in the egg where she interrupted the lightning queen’s guys harassing the totally-not-a-death-knight :] because, as in the above answer, jess doesn’t like bullies! and she’s not a 1st level sorcerer/4th level fighter anymore, she’s Powerful and she has Powerful Friends so she can just charge right in! and it’s fun to play a character who Charges Right In :] and also it was really sexy :D

1. what is their coffee shop order?

hot hazelnut latte :] if it’s starbs and christmas time she gets a chestnut praline latte :]

17. when were they the most angry that they’ve ever been?

this one’s surprisingly hard to answer for her bc most of the things that have made her the most angry--learning the mage had elliot, learning the other sorcerers’ tongues had been cut out, when she was first taken to rhest, when the dragon came to kill her sorcerers--those moments are so tied up with terror and guilt and grief that it’s hard to describe her as “most angry she’s ever been.” so if we’re looking for pure anger, i think there must have been a moment in rhest, maybe when she first arrived, maybe when she was being taken from the laboratory to the cells or vis versa, maybe shortly before she was supposed to be turned into a hybrid, when a priest who was stationed at rhest looked at her and thanked her for her sacrifice in the name of the God Queen. that was the most pure rage she’s ever felt.

20. describe a favorite rp moment with this character

:D this time i am thinking about her last conversation with kobus :] i think their dynamic is. really neat. they’re similar in some ways but REALLY different in others. it got overshadowed a bit by talking about sico but i think about kobus saying “your actions will not have the desired effect, but that doesn’t mean you were wrong to take them” and cerise coming back with “if they have the wrong effect, they were wrong” ALL the time. and then there was the whole conversation about friends you’d kill if you had to....delightful
