summary: charlotte overhears some students on campus talking about you.

Charlotte knew that she shouldn't have been surprised by what she had overheard in the coffee shop when she came by to help you set up your office. College was a time for growth and new experiences. For a lot of the students, it was the first time that they had freedom away from home to do whatever they wanted to. She had been the same way, she had made her fair share of mistakes and questionable choices in those first few years on her own. That didn't mean she was going to react in a reasonable way to hearing a bunch of college students talk about the "hot new psychology professor" that had transferred in from out of state.

"What did my croissant do to you?" Charlotte looked down at her hand, which was holding your pastry in a tight fist. She gingerly set it down on your desk, wincing at the mess of crumbs. "Second thoughts?"

"About you moving with me? Never in a million years. I'm not so sure about this school though, it feels a bit like a party school," Charlotte said as she sat down next to you. You quirked an eyebrow at her, both of you knew that this was a much nicer school than the one you'd worked at before.

"I'm sure that is the issue. Not because you ran into the welcoming party huh?" you teased. Charlotte's brows were knit in confusion as she tried to figure out what you meant. "The barista at the coffee shop thought I was very cute until I paid with my staff card. Word on the street is that I'm already very popular."

"Don't forget why you're here," Charlotte warned. You scoffed, as if you'd ever cheat on Charlotte with anyone, let alone one of your students. It was morally reprehensible, and you wouldn't jeopardize the good thing you had with Charlotte. She took care of you unlike anyone else had, but more importantly, she reminded you of what it felt like to be loved. "I mean it. It gets lonely at night all alone, I'd hate for you to be in here grading papers..."

"I love you, but for the love of god don't finish that sentence." You pulled a piece of the broken croissant out of the wrapper and handed it over to her. "Besides, I do all my grading at home. You know, that place where you're going to stay for the next few months?"

"I don't know if I can stay put like that. This place doesn't look too safe, maybe you need a security guard." Charlotte's tone was joking, but you knew that it was likely her "injured leave" would end up being spent in your office with you.

"Fine, but only because I know you won't let up until I agree."

"Smart woman," Charlotte said happily as she leaned forward to kiss you.
