    An Effective Field Theory of Magneto-Elasticity. (arXiv:2112.13873v3 [hep-th] UPDATED)

    We utilize the coset construction to derive the effective field theory of magnon-phonon interactions in (anti)-ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic insulating materials. The action is used to calculate the equations of motion which generalize the Landau-Lifshitz and stress equations to allow for magneto-acoustic couplings to all orders in the fields at lowest order in the derivative expansion. We also include the symmetry breaking effects due to Zeeman, and Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interactions. This effective theory is a toolbox for the study of magneto-elastic phenomena from first principles. As an example we use this theory to calculate the leading order contribution to the magnon decay width due to its the decay into phonons.

    Temporada 2020

    Sembla que la pandèmia ho va ocupar tot... i es mes o menys cert, però també vam fer cosetes...

    Vam tornar a participar a la lliga del Tennis Taula intercomarcal d’Osona, que encara que en dos parts, es va portar fins la final, i vam quedar campions del grup dos de la competició (copa al sarró!!!)

    Vam participar per segona temporada consecutiva a la competició federativa, a la categoria de 2a provincial B. Per segona temporada consecutiva vam guanyar el nostre grup, assolint l’ascens a 2a.

    I, encara que en versió reduïda, vam tornar a fer el nostre torneig de club per la festa major de Sant Quirze Safaja.

    One of my classes used A\B to represent the group of left cosets and like. I sort of get it, i really do, but that notation already means set subtraction! You can't just...use it this other way, it's extremely confusing! God I hate group theory so much

    Kevin Coset, California inmate BG7013, incarceration intake at age 27, scheduled for parole consideration 08/2036.

    Cost, a former Camp Pendleton Marine shot and stabbed an Army reservist, whose body was found zipped inside a sleeping bag in his SUV in a Fallbrook parking lot about two weeks after his family reported him missing.

    The defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 51 years to life in prison for the murder of 24-year-old Alvin Bulaoro, who was stabbed 44 times and shot twice in the head.

    Prosecutors said cell phone records indicated that on the day Bulaoro disappeared, he was planning to meet up with someone he was having a sexual relationship with. The sleeping bag used to wrap up Bulaoro’s body matched a model sold at Camp Pendleton, leading investigators to Coset.

    From there, detectives followed an investigative trail that led to a Fallbrook hotel room, where Coset stayed the night of the murder and where they found evidence of Bulaoro’s blood under the carpet and on walls, furniture and ceiling.

    The Cottonwood Grove Homestead, North Dakota Part 1

    No one has fostered my love and passion for exploring and capturing abandoned places more than my friend Bethany and her mom, Linda. Bethany brings her own interest in the history and sociology behind these spaces while Linda brings her wonderful sense of adventure. No one can sniff out a good abandoned place like Linda, and no one can see the beauty and story in it like Bethany. I’m beyond fortunate to know them, and only wish I could visit them more. These photos are from last summer, 2021. We went on one of our classic day of exploring abandoned places and it was fantastic as always! 

    This is the first place we went. Quite far gone, but not too far to explore and appreciate it! 

    Look at the decorative aspects of this place! Fading away, but enough left to still be lovely. 

    One thing I love finding in abandoned places - things left behind. In this case, perennials! 

    These orange day lilies hang on, even still. They are planted all along one side of the house. 

    Can you imagine a farm wife putting them in the ground, hoping to add some beauty to her homestead? 

    So many windows knocked out...

    ...the weather really gets in here. 

    Let’s go inside! 

    The steps are concrete, so we don’t need to worry about those, but watch your step around the house...

    Something odd right off the batt in the entryway...(also, notice plumbing...perhaps a mudroom sink?)

    What on earth is this thing?

    We had some guesses...thought it looked a bit homemade...

    ...but ultimately, we didn’t come up with any one idea. Do you have one?

    UPDATE: this thing has been identified thanks to the good folks at reddit!

    From the mudroom to the kitchen. Everything has been ripped out.

    An old heater is between the doors to the living room and second level. 

    Here we go to the living room. 

    Goodness, the blinds aren’t really helping matters are they?

    That floor must have been beautiful once. 

    Off the living room, this closet under the stairs. 

    And a bedroom, as well. With doors nailed over a window. 

    A fancy grate.

    Going back into the kitchen...

    ...but first, look at the old light switch! 

    Through the kitchen and another door and we find the old bathroom.

    Normally tubs are not in such bad shape. This one is trashed! 

    Pity. I’m sure someone loved and treasured this room back when it was fist put in. Indoor plumbing is no small deal.

    Shall we go upstairs? 

    Watch your step! 

    Lots of damage on the second floor. This place has been uncared for for years.

    Look at the pattern still visible on the floor!

    I wonder - who decided the room should be a nice, sunny yellow?

    Effective actions for compact objects in an effective field theory of gravity. (arXiv:2111.09070v3 [hep-th] UPDATED)

    Using the effective field theory framework for extended objects and the coset construction, we build the leading order effective action for the most general compact object allowed in an effective theory of gravity as general relativity. We derive all the covariant building blocks and constraints to build up the relevant invariant terms in the action to all orders. Our derived effective action contains a relativistic point mass term, and relativistic corrections due to spin, charge, size effects and dissipation. With our definition of the relativistic spin, we show that spin-acceleration corrections are encoded in higher order spin-spin couplings. We derive the correction to the point particle due to charge, and build up the invariant operators that take into account for the internal structure. Each of the invariant operators in the action is accompanied by a coefficient that encapsulates the properties of the compact object. We match the known coefficients of the effective action from the literature, and point out the unknown ones that are to be derived.

    Non-linear Realizations of Conformal Symmetry and Effective Field Theory for the Pseudo-Conformal Universe. (arXiv:1202.6056v4 [hep-th] UPDATED)

    The pseudo-conformal scenario is an alternative to inflation in which the early universe is described by an approximate conformal field theory on flat, Minkowski space. Some fields acquire a time-dependent expectation value, which breaks the flat space so(4,2) conformal algebra to its so(4,1) de Sitter subalgebra. As a result, weight-0 fields acquire a scale invariant spectrum of perturbations. The scenario is very general, and its essential features are determined by the symmetry breaking pattern, irrespective of the details of the underlying microphysics. In this paper, we apply the well-known coset technique to derive the most general effective lagrangian describing the Goldstone field and matter fields, consistent with the assumed symmetries. The resulting action captures the low energy dynamics of any pseudo-conformal realization, including the U(1)-invariant quartic model and the Galilean Genesis scenario. We also derive this lagrangian using an alternative method of curvature invariants, consisting of writing down geometric scalars in terms of the conformal mode. Using this general effective action, we compute the two-point function for the Goldstone and a fiducial weight-0 field, as well as some sample three-point functions involving these fields.
