okay but deafblind lurien as a concept... pspspspsps
Remus uses a cane on-screen in the PoA movie for all of a minute but that minute lives rent-free in my brain. There just isn't enough content about Remus using mobility aids around the full moon when his joints are aching because of the transformation or wounds are still healing
Okay Greg Abbott is an absolute fucking asshole and I hate him so much for so many reasons but do not fall into the trap of hating on him by making fun of or disparaging his disability. He is a bad person point blank. He also happens to be disabled. They are not connected nor related. Don’t bring it up when you are talking about him as a way to make fun of him or point to him being bad. It has nothing to do with the fact that he’s a giant fucking knob.
I really wish some of the ppl who talk about “gifted kid burnout” would check their privilege a little bit bc yes, it’s hard to constantly be held to a high standard, but they absolutely did not have it harder than kids who struggled with schoolwork, neurodivergent kids who weren’t supported in their classes, kids with learning disabilities, etc, etc. And now the same ppl who spent their childhoods being praised end up with these huge victim/martyr complexes. Like some of y’all really sound like:
“I have gifted kid burnout :( I was in the gifted program for years and :( used to read at a college level in third grade and :( now I’m suddenly not receiving special treatment anymore and :( have to be mediocre like the rest of you peasants :(”
It’s gross.
i am BEGGING abled people to understand that when a disabled person says they can't do something, it means they cannot do that thing.
like. that is SUCH a simple concept but theyre all somehow convinced that we're lying or making excuses or that we're just not pushing ourselves hard enough or we dont know ourselves as well as THEY do.
i would much rather believe someone who says they cant do something and is lying than not believe someone and push them too far, sometimes to the point of injury. like... able-bodied people, what is not clicking with you.
Is it disrespectful to create an OC who is a little person to pair them with a characters who is also a little person?
Hey, anon! I reached out to @a-little-revolution for their thoughts, copy-pasted below.

Rad! I think that pairing LP together in media is excellent, as it's always good to give your disabled characters comradery and community. Inter-abled coupling can be just as good - I'd especially love to see a couple where the two have differing disabilities. It's the writer's choice whether they wish to center a community, or connect it to another - each are valuable tools when creating positive representation for minority/marginalized groups
A point I would make for little people specifically, is that they are often socially othered in writing, particularly in fantasy where they do not live communally with abled characters. Your two LP should for sure fall in love! Just be sure that they are both interwoven with the other characters as not to place them separate from the story.
Additionally, I would add that you do not necessarily need to add another little person in order for your original LP to fall in love, and if they only exist as a love interest your audience will know. Diversity should exist naturally in your writing, and love should cross all bounds of it. Your need to include more than one dwarf character should come from the basis of community and not segregation.

A bunch of the bebes that I brought to my last show. Most have found homes, but a few are still available. 🖤
How nerve-wracking to watch my body to fall apart on me. How beautiful to see myself stitched back together as a scrapbook of the way my friends love. It's the scariest honor.
I want to start doing art about my disabilities and the emotions that come with it. It's been a hard couple of years and I'm still processing a lot of aspects of it. The one thing I'm sure of is I love my friends, and I know they love me. That's enough for now.

hi i saw your tags on that post about wheelchairs at museums and i wanted to say-- you totally can do that!! often they have so many more than they need and if you just want to be able to sit more or walk less, then you can and should use a wheelchair in museums!!
thanks - but i think rn i'm too self-conscious to do so. while ideally, mobility aids would be similar to e.g. glasses (some people need them to see, others just like to wear them for any reason, but there's not a significant stigma associated w/ being a glasses wearer), we're not really at that point yet. i think using a wheelchair at a museum just because my legs are tired would come off as taking advantage of a resource not intended for able-bodied people like me, and i'm just not ready to have a "yes i can walk just fine but i'm exhausted so i'm using a wheelchair instead to normalize using mobility aids if you want to :)" conversation with strangers sdfgh
(not to mention that i don't have any experience using wheelchairs so i'd likely crash into something/someone rip)
that being said, i know this is basically the opposite of what the post is saying. it's easy to agree with posts online. it's much harder to take actions irl
Finally cut my hair and took a shower w it and oh my god. oh my god this takes so few spoons this is so convenient why did I not do this before
