just as much as we had some excellent sunglasses being rocked throughout the years in formula one (see: jackie stewart, jochen rindt, jacky ickx) there are also some truly atrocious specimens that make my eyes bleed. mostly from the 90s/00s, i have to add. anyway:

WOW DEEP CUT THERE EDDIE IRVINE. On one hand I do fuck heavily with a Northern irish accent. On the other hand I don't really want to fuck this man

endless iconic f1 moments - hakkinen’s tears
mika hakkinen is distraught after crashing from the lead of the 1999 italian grand prix. hakkinen went into the weekend leading the championship by one point from ferrari’s eddie irvine. the finn qualified on pole and dominated the first half of the race. however he selected the wrong gear going into the rettifilo chicane and spun off into the gravel. irvine finished sixth to level the championship with three races to go. hakkinen said after the race “the emotions came at me in a torrent. i almost stumbled away from the car, heading for the trees, not feeling anger... but instead sadness. i sat down under a tree to collect my emotions, but it was futile. i cried.” the finn would go on to win the world championship by two points over irvine.
