I used to think J2 tinhatters were just harmless weirdos. They didn’t bother me because it seemed that most of them weren’t as toxic (by the time I got into the fandom) as cockles truthers and like they were equal fans of J2. Also, I wasn’t in the business of seeking them out since it’s not my thing so any tinhats blogs I followed were J2 focused with only occasional tinhatting that I just ignored because who am I to yuck someone’s yum?

However after the prequel gate they showed that they are not Jared fans at all, but Jensen fans who want to use Jared as some sort of prop for their fantasies. I don’t care how casual of a tinhat someone is now, I want nothing to do with them or their content because they’ve shown their true colors.

There’s a reason they’ve always hated Gen but tolerated Danneel. Their stories of J2 being in love didn’t really work out if only Jensen was the one who didn’t want to go home and be with his family. Jared actually liking his wife (gasp, the horror) gets in the way of their RPF. I don’t think anyone has to like or even care about the wives, I certainly don’t like Danneel. However it is weird to constantly harp on a woman who stays in her own lane because she committed the “heinous crime” of marrying Jared. Their hate started amping up again because Jared didn’t divorce Gen to run off into the sunset with Jensen the moment SPN ended like they wanted. Instead he went home to his family and seems happier than ever. A betrayal worse than anything poor little Jensen has ever done (sarcasm).

I added that second ask because it sounds like they go together. :)

With respect to my other ask, I'll reiterate that this is talking about the extreme tinhatters.

I agree that there are some that ended up only being Jensen fans, but just in the past day I've seen some die-hard Jared fans that are extreme tinhatters, so I wouldn't put them all in the Jared hating bucket.

As for the non-tinhatters- I just got an ask that outlined one person's dislike of Gen. As for the dislike of Danneel, the anti blogs I'm familiar with dislike her for reasons that go beyond her relationship with Jensen. I won't get into those because I don't want to discuss specifics, but if mutuals want to dive in, you're welcome to.

If you want to know why there are so many gen “haters”, I’ll take a stab at explaining why I, as a Jared fan, don’t like her and don’t like how she appears to treat Jared at times (I try not to “hate” anyone). And for the record, I’m not a tinhat, never liked danneel either, and my opinion on jensen has plummeted since prequelgate.

Anyway, I used to like Gen until she started posting regularly on social media in 2017 (using her daughter’s birth to promote Pop and Suki products). And even then it took me a while for her to really turn me off. 

In far too many of her posts that include Jared on social media, she’s obviously using him as clickbait and in many pictures he does not appear to want to have his photo taken. In many pictures his expression doesn’t indicate enthusiasm and she’s posted many pictures of Jared from behind or where you can’t see his face. I can’t help but look at a picture like the recent one and think on some level she knows how some of these pictures look and if she takes a pic of him from behind, his expression won’t give away his lack of interest in posing for these pictures. 

To me the pictures from the italy trip last year really showed to me there’s something off in their relationship particularly with regard to how they sell it on social media. In almost every picture of him next to her from that trip (which should have been a happy stress-free couple trip with no kids) he looks like he wasn’t really happy and didn’t want to be there. At best, he just looked kind of neutral. Meanwhile there were plenty of fan pics from that trip (or pics with his brother or friend) where he looked very happy, and many other photos of him with friends in Austin where he looked extremely happy to be around them (such as his pics with Keegan, Anson, Mitch, and his stunt double). Pictures taken of Jared and Gen in italy were all over her instagram and her Now and Gen blog. It’s very clear to me that entire trip existed to give Gen something to post on her blog and give clicks to her instagram, and Jared was going along with this out of obligation. (Heck compare early pics of Jared and Gen where they looked genuinely cute and happy to be around each other, to many of the more recent pictures where (with a few exceptions) Jared looks disengaged, you can’t see his face, his eyes are closed, or there’s a kid as a buffer). 

Some things I want to emphasize: 

1) I don’t expect Jared to look ecstatic in every pic, I don’t judge every pic where he has a neutral or negative expression as meaningful, but if several pictures are like that, especially on different days and when he’s happy in other pictures, I can’t help but see that as a pattern. 

2) I don’t think Jared is being “forced” to do this, he clearly chooses to for his own reasons, but my observations are why I will never stan their relationship because I don’t see two people on the same page doing things together because they want to. Meanwhile Odette and Dave’s relationship and social media is way more coherent and cute and worth following.

3) I get that instagram influencers are a thing and she’s building a career of sorts and supporting Jared’s public image. I don’t think that’s all bad but I don’t like the way she goes about doing it. Plus, although I’m sure she earns some money from the products she promotes, her ventures can’t help but look like something she does solely for attention and ego because the money has to be a drop in the bucket compared to what Jared earns doing everything he does, so it’s not like their family needs the money. Her instagram comes across to me as an inconsistent, often hypocritical, exercise in A/B testing with a few vague themes, not something authentic with things she’s truly passionate about.

With regard to the products she promotes, it comes across as fake and disjointed to me because she seems to promote everything under the sun from different product categories, to the extent that I can’t possibly believe she genuinely uses and enjoys all the products she promotes. For instance, she’s promoted so many different skin care brands there’s no way she uses all or most of them or has anything useful to say about those brands. Yes, I know ads on instagram are inherently fake but I’ve read through instagram accounts that are waaaay more credible and consistent with the products they promote, and you can believe the promoter actually uses and believes in the product. There’s a reason the Kardashians (fake and out of touch and ridiculous as they are) are successful at what they do - they're "authentic" where it counts for $$$. Heck, Jared is actually good at this - he doesn’t promote everything under the sun, he promotes Mantra, his show and a few of his friends’ shows/businesses. I believe he uses the Mantra product and believes it’s a great product because of how he consistently talks about it on social media and in interviews. And, Jared knows how to self-correct. He was starting to turn me off a little with overdoing the Mantra promotion but he has dialed back the promotion recently so I’m cool again.

The sustainability thing can’t help but bother me because buying every “sustainable” and “earth-friendly” product out there won’t save the earth compared to genuine systematic change at the corporate and governmental level. Also, she and her family inherently have a higher carbon footprint compared to the people she advertises to because they are rich and have a large house/property. Plus there is the hypocrisy of things like caring about environmentalism and sustainability while doing things like posting a picture of everyone in the family wearing more bandaids than they’d every actually need, so clearly plastic bandaids which will go into the landfill were used solely for an ad, not likely because anyone actually needed one at that point. 

Do I have an issue with them being rich and enjoying that or do I expect her to solve climate change? No, but she doesn’t seem to recognize or know how to deal with this contradiction so it turns me off. Like I’m more sustainable than you without trying because I don’t travel by plane very often or buy new things unless I truly need them, why are you trying to tell me how to care about the earth as though you know more than me. 

Other things that this ask is already too long for (ask me for proof and I can hopefully dig it up): her being asked during an interview or live what she likes best about Jared and immediately talking about what annoyed her about him, Jared posting a few years ago that he was having a bad time and her responding by posting a story saying “no bad days” aka kinda toxic positivity and coming across as insensitive, her using the kids for ads and clicks when the kids clearly don’t want to be photographed, her saying she and Jared have a contract where they have to go out every two weeks which doesn’t scream healthy relationship to me if that’s required, the way Jared seems to self-deprecate when praising her (yes that’s him choosing to do that but to me, it suggests some issues are there).

I could go on and this is too long but it gives you an idea of what people are reacting to when they post things “hating” on her. Some of this stuff doesn’t come across to a casual fan or from one post, but for some of us who have been following Jared and Gen closely for years it is hard not to notice patterns repeating themselves, and how new posts fit seamlessly into existing patterns of behavior.

Whew! That's a mouthful! I'll go ahead and post this ask because you were very respectful sharing your opinion and gave reasons as to why you believe the way you do. I'll leave this here for others to view and make their own decisions.

And thank you, anon, for the way you worded your ask. I believe this kind of discourse is needed in all aspects of society when people have differing views. Your simply sharing your opinion and why you feel that way and letting others decide for themselves if they agree with any or all of what you've shared.

I'm going to take the stance of politely agreeing to disagree here as I feel Jared and Gen are a loving couple, but that's my opinion. I don't expect you to share it, nor am I going to try and persuade you to do so. As I appreciate your willingness to share without denigrating or attempting to persuade me. It helps to see that people have other reasons for not liking Gen than just considering her a beard for some J2 relationship.
