Fun idea for anyone who plays Rimworld.

You can get the prepare carefully mod and change all starting colonists to be like your alters, in skills and talents and all that.

Might be easier to manage for smaller systems but still

    A rare personal post below:

So, I’ve stumbled upon a “you are from a colonized country? Tell in the tags if you are fluent in your native language” post and it got me thinking.

First of all, let’s face it — Ukraine, where I was born, grew up and still live against all odds, is a colonized country. From the late Middle Ages and up until the very recent past Ukraine didn’t exist as a separate state, but was divided and controlled by Russia and Austro-Hungarian Empire mainly, later solely by Russia in the form of USSR. Ukraine has become independent in 1991, even my parents have spent a good chunk of their life prior to that under the Moscow rule. It’s barely been 30 years and Russia is trying to take our independence away again. But whatever, that’s not the main point here. One thing is clear - I definitely live in a colonized country.

When it comes to native language though, things become more messy to the point where I can’t answer that simple yes/no question. Because ethnically I’m not even Ukrainian, maybe some tiny percent at most. Most of my ancestors have lived on this land for generations but belonged to different other ethnicities — Polish, Jews, Tatar, some odd Lithuanian and yes, Russian.

My great-grandma was a Polish girl from a supposedly upper middle class family somewhere in Volyn’, whose father was murdered by Soviet soldiers for trying to stop them from assaulting his wife in the beginning of the last century and who subsequently fled death sentence with her mother and siblings to rural Kyiv region. She was something about three or four years old at the time, the youngest of the seven children. From that time on she and her siblings were forbidden by their mother from ever speaking Polish again outside of the house, as much as hinting at praying in public or celebrating stuff like Christmas (forbidden in the USSR as well) lest they compromised safety of the entire family. Even her name was changed to suit the Soviet norm and Pavlina Florianovna became Polina Fedorovna.

By some peculiar turn of fate she grew up and married a Russian officer that liberated her hometown in WW2.

Their daughters understandably never learned Polish despite having relatives in Poland and are native Russian speakers.

So what is even my native language at this point? Is it Russian — the language of my family and childhood, the language of my thoughts and dreams? Is it Ukrainian — the official language of the once colonized state I call my homeland? Is it Polish — the language of the biggest chunk of my ancestors, that had been stolen from them by colonizers?

Maybe that’s why I’m so defensive about people currently shunning Russian because of this war. I grew up with a notion that not so long ago my family already lost one native language. I’m not going to hand them over another one so easily.

About of cis people asking trans people questions... just ask whatever is on the terms of your relationship to them. If yall talk about your sex life and it's normal and a part of your friendship with them you can ask about their sex life. If not then don't. If you barely know each other ask about names and maybe pronouns. Also don't feel bad if a trans person doesn't feel like answering just don't be persistent. It's a big part of our lives so don't act like it's not but also don't ask about our genitals if we're just coworkers but also don't act all shy and afraid to ask that kinda question if we're at the level of familiarity where we talk about hookups and sexual experiences and our physical health. We're just people you can be curious and it's better to ask us than ponder it alone and make assumptions and circle jerk the topic amongst other cis people without finding out from the source. We're all also very different about how we feel about and decide to maneuver our sex lives and physical transitions and it is a part of getting to know us. Basically don't be a pussy, don't be invasive, don't assume anything, and don't demand answers.

Also if you're pursuing a sexual relationship with a trans person and it's known that the feeling is mutual and there's an expectation on both sides of it occuring please politely ask about what they feel comfortable with and express your own discomfort if it doesn't match up with your preferences. Just like you probably should with other cis people anyways. It's usually only like a few minutes of awkward conversation anyways if it even feels that way.

I'm sure a lot of trans people feel different but I think you're fine if you only ask questions like these when it comes up and don't expect us to answer and feel personally offended or guilty if we don't want to. It's just painful to watch y'all try to act too polite or pc just to avoid guilt and most of the time we can tell when a question comes from a good place or if it's from a weird morbid/fetishy/bizzare novelty curiosity.

tree hugger by kimya dawson. it's hard to put it into words but it makes me think of alters who feel dysphoric about their body, and alters who are close to other alters in the system and miss being able to be with them physically/never got to be with them physically and wish they could

ok but how is nobody talking about when Dr. Harrow brought up his experiences with mental illness???

His “manic episodes followed by depression…”

What is comes down to is the moon boys with dissociative identity disorder and Arthur Harrow with (implied) bipolar I disorder!!

I love how the Moon Knight series is largely about themes of mental illness and breaking the stereotypes and stigma around it!!
