what are your thoughts on taehyung saying him and JK had an “adult talk” during hobi’s vlive November last year? It’s not something I think is suspicious just in itself but I am confused at taehyung’s body language and reaction when hobi asked him more about it which made it kinda sus as if he wanted us to know about it but was nervous to speak any further about it? Idk just thought that moment was a bit odd.

Ahhhh I’m so glad you asked this because I absolutely love this moment. So, so much actually.  It’s such a tiny moment but my adoration of it is big and I’ll try my best to explain why.

Like you said, there’s nothing inherently suspicious about Tae having dinner with Jungkook, and I think calling the kind of conversation they had “adult talk” is just meant to imply that they spent genuine, intentional time together, being serious rather than goofy, basically.

Tae starts out just by sharing this, with Hobi and the audience, which is really normal for him.  He talks about Jungkook and spending time with Jungkook often (adorable).  Once he delivers this pretty basic information and Hobi asks for clarification on what they talked about, though, he starts to look like he’s trying not to smile.  When Hobi asks again for clarification on what they talked about, Tae gets so shy!  He looks away from the camera to look at Hobi instead, doing this awkward, jerky nod and giving a thumbs up, it seems like.  At that point Hobi giggles, and then Tae says, with this pleased little look on his face, that Jungkook said he’s happy these days.  Whatever was going on here, it was absolutely precious, in my opinion.

As for my take on it, insofar as I think Tae is always happy to talk about spending time with Jungkook, I agree with your assessment that he “wanted us to know about it,” though I don’t know how much I think he really thinks about it in that way.  I think he probably wasn’t really expecting Hobi to ask for more info than that, and so when he not only did ask but pressed for more, it threw Tae off and he didn’t really know what to say.

Obviously, I’m biased because I already think Tae and JK are likely in a romantic relationship, so to me this moment reads as Tae not knowing how to give Hobi the information he’s asking for because he and JK were essentially on a date -- and the way he interacts with Hobi, cutting off his interaction with the audience, to me implies that Hobi knows this, hence his laughter.

As you pointed out, he was nervous to speak more about it. He could have answered Hobi with a little more detail, but he blanked when his first, vague answer didn’t do the trick.  He didn’t know what to say and resorted to awkward, silly gesturing to -- as it seems to me -- basically answer Hobi’s question for Hobi while leaving the audience out of it, which is why Hobi laughed, because he understood what Tae meant.

If I put my Healthy Skepticism and Critical Thinking Hat on, I can say that sure, maybe Tae just wasn’t expecting the third degree and didn’t know what to say so he felt a little awkward.

That’s the most the hat can do for me today though, because it’s really hard to see why he would feel awkward just over having a dinner with Jungkook that took on a more serious tone. And if that were the case, why then would he be so obviously pleased? Tae is absolutely GLOWING in this clip; the way he’s smiling in this small, controlled way seems so intimate to me, like he’s just radiating with this private happiness.

That’s why I love this moment so much, because even when Jungkook isn’t there, Taehyung’s pleasure and happiness just at the mere thought of him is palpable.

Hi! This will be 2 parts as I have quite a bit to say. I'm in the minority who believes TK had a non-platonic relationship around 2016 to around 2018 and then had a time where they decided to take a step back (for multiple reasons). Every time I tell others this they just don't see it as a possibility which confuses me as it sounds pretty realistic. I always get asked why I think they ended whatever non-platonic relationship they had a few years back and it's simple (will continue in pt2)

If you listen to their words, and if you actually take their words over the last few years, (mostly in 2019-2020) for what they are (aka don’t believe they’re lying) they simply don’t add up to 2 people in a committed relationship. There have been plenty of instances where Tae or JK simply did not know their day to day lives of each other or even some personal things. I think they had an intimate relationship but no longer do which is why we still see those affectionate stares and gestures.

Hi, anon!  First of all, I just want to say thank you for sharing your thoughts!  I hope that this blog can be a space where people with lots of different opinions feel comfortable and free to have discussions about what they think and feel, as well as the reasons why.

I have to say, this is an interesting take on Taekook that I haven’t seen as frequently as some others -- even the exact opposite thought that Taekook only got together as recently as 2020.

You say that other people don’t see this as a possibility -- your thought that Taekook were non-platonic earlier on but decided to take a step back sometime after or around 2018 -- and it confuses you as to why, because it seems realistic to you.  I certainly do agree with that notion: people break up all the time.  Even people in friend groups, and even people who work together.  So I agree that it certainly is one possibility.

For me though, I have a hard time seeing it that way.  Personally, I feel like the last few years have been more indicative of a non-platonic relationship between them, rather than less.  I’ve written at length about why I see TK as having more substantial “evidence,” for lack of a better word, so I won’t go into all that again now except to say that I think all of those elements have been just as prevalent, if not more so, since 2020.

As for your point about listening to their words over the last few years, I’m curious about which ones you’re specifically referring to.  I mean that genuinely -- I’d love to hear what you’re referencing if you feel like sharing!  If you mean the ITS conversation, I have a whooooole long post that goes into my take on that lol.

But as far as the fact of them not knowing details of each other’s day-to-day lives or personal things, my thought is that this doesn’t disprove the possibility of them having a romantic relationship.  For one thing, especially lately, we’ve seen a whole lot of instances where they do know a lot of personal, minute details about each other and their lives and schedules.  But also, it’s normal, in my opinion, to not know everything that goes on with your partner.  I’m married and live with my spouse and still learn new things about them all the time, and often don’t know the details of their daily schedules even though right now we’re both working from home.  People are complex, and not knowing certain things about someone doesn’t, to me anyway, automatically preclude a more romantic and intimate bond.

You also pointed out that their previously having a non-platonic relationship would explain why there are still affectionate stares and gestures.  This is interesting because it’s certainly true that those romantic/platonic lines can get blurry, and people who have ended a non-platonic relationship may still have non-platonic feelings that color the way they interact.  I won’t say that’s definitely not what’s happening here, but goodness, how painful would it be for them to be in that situation?  Personally, I have a hard time believing they would be able to engage in that way with each other while being broken up, at least not without it leading to significant tension within the group, which I feel would have to at least be occasionally witnessed by fans, just because of how affecting I imagine it would be.

Ultimately, I could totally see your interpretation of things as being a possibility.  It might explain some of the weirdness, and it could be another way to explain the uptick of Taekook in official content over the last couple of years because maybe there was suddenly less to hide.

For me, though, Tae and JK have been acting as enamored with each other lately as they ever have, and even though certainly people do break up all the time and life goes on, I feel like it would be almost impossible for a shift that massive not to have a visible impact on the group.
