The E-class as cultivators and what sect they would belong into
Now, first of all, do not ask me. I have no idea either. Moving on:
Karma: Jiang. He likes the free spirit that seems to breathe within this sect; and with the way he flies it is good to have as much water around as possible so that our favorite I-jump-off-of-cliffs-because-I-feel-like-it boy doesn’t accidentally kill himself.
Nagisa: No sect, he is a rouge-cultivator, who was taken in by a very strong but unknown (at least by face, everyone knows the legend) cultivator who in the end saved him instead of achieving immortality, dying on the same day.
Nagisa is not someone who would ever be seen as much, but always gets the job done, no matter what. He does not involve himself in sect politics because he likes his life to be simple, but he gets dragged into Jiang and Nie and even Lan and Jin (basically into all of them) occasionally because of his friends, who he made by accident. (But he doesn’t have many, so he really wants to keep them.)
Kayano: Nie, all the way. Is a bit frail for a saber, but can completely well ignore the cursed energy destroying her on the inside, smile and joke. Likes to hide behind fans, and is never seen training or working - yet all the work gets done and no one ever can complain openly. She noticed Nagisa once in the rain and offered her umbrella to him, thus they met.
Isogai: Ofc he is a Lan. And no one can hate him for it, everyone loves him, the elders, the other students and even members of other sects can’t help to admire him on some level. Probably due to commit arson or murder at some point in his sect life.
Maehara: Jin, and probably the reason why the former gets in trouble at all. Good friends with Isogai, likes to buy things and show off his sheer amount of pocket money.
(Still has to play servant to Karma in Gusu from time to time, because the latter wins all the time in their bets. It’s pretty bad for his ego, but he is a Jin, it’s probably good for him.)
Kanzaki: Lan. Not only because she is just that calm and refined, but because the mere picture of her making men that hit on her in less than appropriate ways just shut up with a talisman while politely smiling is absolutely perfect. Friends with Kayano, who sends her fans all the time, they go out together with Nakamura and play dress up sometimes. Kanzaki is also close to Hazama, due to being raised by the same parents. Not as close as one would assume, but she enjoys the occasional silent company well enough.
Okuda: A Lan as well, and pretty thankful that silence is a virtue in her sect, because her conversation-skill is none-existent. Makes great medicine, is currently studying ways to shorten the time it takes to heal for normal humans. Doesn’t leave her room most of the time and constantly forgets to eat as well. Has already broken like all the 3000 rules because of Kayano, but no one knows that, because as girls they have this thing called brain (a Kanzaki who would be sad if they got punished), so they know how to do it in secret.
Okano: Nie, spy in Jin, does her job, can knock out people twice her size without blinking. Made the mistake of making real friends in the Jin sect and is now second guessing every life-decision she ever made. Plans to kidnap her friends but isn’t sure how to do it yet.
Okajima: No one cares about him. But he is alive and well, not involved in any drama and not allowed to harass anyone either.
Kataoka: Jiang, and she is constantly done with everyone's bullshit. Loves braiding her hair. Half her sect (and like half of every other sect) has had a crush on her at some point already. She has wiped so many of Karma’s pranks under the rug that someone joked that they are a fated pair, which was hilarious to one of them at least. She is deeply loved by her sect and will probably pick up some orphan kid at some point so that no one comes up with the idea to marry her off like some prize. (She is practically the next leader. As if they would dare.)
And she will be absolutely not sorry about it. Nagisa gets to play babysitter for the kid, because Karma isn’t trusted with the toddler alone.
Kimura: He is in Nie, though he is often overlooked and written of as a rouge cultivator. He always works hard and tries his best to not get in anyone’s way while doing his work. Has the coolest sword name of his generation and likes to stay in the background if he can. He is also very good in avoiding being hit in direct fights or duels.
Kurahashi: Jin, likes to collect sparkling things, break hearts and get her heart broken. Is often written off as a servant that is favored by her mistress instead of the sect leader’s second daughter due to her easy way of thinking, which she uses to her own benefit as often as possible. Friends with Yada and Okano, whose worldview have helped her open her eyes a bit more to the things outside of her own golden world.
(Secretly fears something is going to go wrong and cause a war, anxious all the time, doesn’t want to lose her friends, is scared for her life. Can smile and ignore that though, because all Jin’s can.)
Sugaya: Nie, doesn’t talk often, is liked well enough, blink and you will miss him. Can be found easily in the city giving food out of the kitchen to people that look like they haven’t eaten in years, which is actually forbidden, but no one ever confronts him about it. Has lost his family in a night hunt at some point in his life, but had already been a student at the time. Is friends with Kimura, they play invisible together from time to time and are actually a pretty good team, even though no one ever notices.
(They both are on Kayano’s list of people that could be trusted with delicate information in case of an emergency, a list that is rather short. Of course they don’t know that, they don’t even know that Kayano knows them.)
Sugino: Jiang. Attempts the impossible every day during their time at Gusu by trying to get the attention of Kanzaki, who kindly tells him off time and time again. It’s almost pitiful to watch, and it’s one of the only reasons why Karma can even stand him (because he gets along too well with Nagisa, and the red-haired tends to get jealous quite fast), and he is told by his friends to just try again and don’t give up. He wasn’t forced into silence yet, which is a huge improvement to all of Kanzaki’s other suitors - but this could also be because he hasn’t done anything inappropriate yet. He is surprisingly good at sword fight and likes animals.
Takebayashi: Jin, constantly scared to say the wrong thing and get his family into trouble, not naive enough for the golden life and too good-hearted for the bloody backside of it. Becomes a rouge-cultivator at some point and learns how to breathe in freedom again. Joins the Lan later, assists Okuda in one of her many researches.
Chiba: Lan. A rather silent student, who is good with the bow, but sucks in everything else. Doesn’t speak up even when bullied. Occasionally spent time with Karma during their school life, they got drunk once and were found, but Karma has shoved him into a lake at the last moment so that only he was found and punished. Chiba still thinks he owes him for that, even though he almost drowned that day (because not everyone can swim, Karma) and had to be saved by Maehara (who was also shoved into the water to escape punishment, only that he doesn’t think he owes Karma anything more than a well-aimed punch in the face for that.)
He eventually gains a friend and doesn’t talk to her much either in fear of saying the wrong thing and scaring her away. (Karma tried to tease him for that, but was stopped by Isogai, who asked him to spar with him. It was quite a duel, to say the least.)
Terasaka: Nie, through and through. Shouts a lot, is often mistaken for arrogant instead of stupid, had a huge break down after the time in Lan had come to its end, was never the same after that, but in a positive way. Has changed so much then that no one recognizes him at first, but then he opens his mouth and everyone hears the familiar loud and way too deep voice.
Is actually considered to be the next master of the sect, as soon as the old one passes away or steps back. Terasaka does not understand why, but he will protect his sect, even the little vermin at his side who keeps on playing with her stupid fan instead of actually working.
Nakamura: Jin, through and through. Knows the golden side and its bloody shadow and also knows the alternative of poverty and a pathetic death, thus her position to her sect stands clear.
Likes to spent money on clothes and sweets, has accompanied Karma and Maehara to the city in order to buy some jewelry once (because Maehara was told to not let her go alone anywhere and golden princess didn’t know how to make friends, Karma tagging along because golden prince had lost another bet and a day of servitude was a day of servitude, even if spend serving two masters), before slipping away from them, only to run into Kayano, Okuda and a blue-haired someone, hiding from another group of cultivators.
Because money is the only language Nakamura knows to speak perfectly aside from sharp pleasantries and bitter smiles, she immediately comes up with a way too expensive plan to get them all out of there, which ends in them, dressed up as the concubines of a rich lord (Nagisa is thankful that the disguise looked convincing that day, because he wasn’t the lord), taking a room in an inn and getting totally wasted there.
(So yes, the golden princess made friends that day. And the red knight and golden prince spent the whole night searching for her and being worried sick, but their ego could use the feeling, it was too big anyway. Did they get punished the next morning due to breaking the curfew because of her? No, because she smuggled them inside the next morning despite her hangover, because she was just that awesome!)
(She also fell in love with the purest blue jewels she had ever seen, but the Jin didn’t need love, it would only end in a stabbed heart, so she threw that feeling away again.)
Hazama: Lan, though not born into the clan. She had been picked up once and brought to the big stone walls, where someone way too kind for this world had asked their parents to please take her in too.
Spends her time mostly in the library or (though less and less as they got older) as a shadow to the finest jade of them all. She talks, if at all, only to Kanzaki, has a huge bunch of resentment and fear that constantly collides with the lessons that are taught. Screams the first time with all her heart at Terasaka after he broke something important like the idiot he was back then. (Screaming was quite nice, she realized that day. From there on she is a bit louder than before, and talks to more people. (Two.)
Isn’t good at fighting, but trains dutifully, desperate to prove herself and apathetic to everything around to her at the same time, which is a very conflicting mix. Almost died of poison, knowingly drinking from a cup that hadn’t been meant for her (”And why would you drink from it?! I told you it was poisoned so you would warn her!” “...” “Oh come on! I would have gotten rid of that idiot without you almost dying!” “...” “Calm down p-p-please, Kaya-” “Oh just shut up.” “I’m sorry for causing that mess. That cup was meant for me-” “Don’t you dare apologize for not drinking poison, A-ki! Don’t. you. dare.”)
Hayami: Jin, though she completely sucks at it in every way aside from archery. Meets a friend in Gusu and is asked if she wants to stay there. Has to ask her maybe friend first. Maybe friend said yes, so she stays by her first not-maybe-friend. It’s nice.
Hara: Not a cultivator at all. Spoiler: She lives the longest of them anyway, because she gets send into another timeline at some point in which she has to figure out everything in order to stop a war before it begins. Maybe she doesn’t live longer than the rest, but it definitely feels like 1000 of years before she manages to get to the right way to do it and safe her family from dying a completely pointless death.
Fuwa: Lan, though one who never knows when to shut up. Is known for talking about books and murder all the time, has fruitlessly tried to befriend Hazama at some point (it almost worked), and is later brought into the alternative timeline as well, after a frustrated Hara just drags the first cultivator along after the forth try was a fail. (Fuwa isn’t complaining, has the time of her life and actually made a friend in her more or less willing companion. It’s fun.)
Mimura: Nie, a quiet one. Not silent, and not less stupid than the loud ones, but he knows when to shut up at least half of the time.
Yoshida: Nie, a loud one. Doesn’t know when to shut up at all, but is loyal to his friends, so much that the idea of dying for them is always a very constant plan b in his mind during critic situations.
Yada: Jin, though was once a Lan, but couldn’t stand it. Enjoys the life she lives right now, playing guard for one of the daughters of the sect leader alongside Okuda, which is mostly gossiping about everyone and everything. She really likes her ward, and couldn’t wish for anything more. (Maybe getting to know the reason why Okuda looked like she was breaking down sometimes would be nice, or having a golden fan like the first daughter of the sect leader, but aside from that, her life is just fine right now.)
Muramatsu: No cultivator, but just as loud, but also a good cook, which excuses almost all of his stupidity, at least in Karma’s opinion, who is not above bulling the local Nie chief into making him his favorite, way too spicy food. (He pays, so Muramatsu mostly doesn’t care about it.)
Ritsu: Has switched universe, is now playing AI in the world of scum villain. It’s quite funny in her opinion, so no worries on her side!
Itona: Nie, just appeared one day next to Kayano, a shadow to a shadow. Terasaka doesn’t like him either, but he accepts him into the circle of ‘must protect no matter what’ anyway, because that is his job aside from shouting and drinking and hunting, and if the real heir wouldn’t do the shouting, then that was just how it was.
(Our special extra:
Karma: So what do you think, ace of A, what sect would you belong to?
Asano: Wen. Definitively Wen, there is no way I wouldn’t belong-
Karma: Wen doesn’t exist anymore though, so sadly that’s not an option for you. No power and superiority-complex for you, I fear. Choose another one.
Asano: How about the Jin-
Karma: You’re coming to Jiang with me. Violet suits you best anyway, and if you work hard then maybe one day they will change their motto from “attempt the impossible” to “conquer the impossible”, or some other arrogant thing, just because of you.
Asano: But only for the color, because I’m done being in the same place as you.
Karma: Sure, sure. Wait, with you there, the whole plot would change drastically, we need to start again! Also, how did I meet Nagisa? Why wasn’t that mentioned?
Kayano: How about we all just die instead?
Karma: And get reincarnated into another anime? Thanks, I still have enough of the Yugioh-Au I was stuck in last time. Tell her Shù!
Asano: A plot that ends with all characters dying and no power of friendship sounds refreshing to me as well, Kaede-san.)
