Chalfont St. Giles & Jordans Literary Festival:
This weekend I travelled back to Milton’s Cottage and nearby Jordans to attend a talk on George Eliot’s Middlemarch
and honestly? I was little nervous since this is the first literary event I’ve attended outside of uni, but it was great experience and reminder to try new things <3
Professor Rosemary Ashton (who wrote the intro to my edition of Middlemarch!!!) spoke with Eve Mason about the novel, the author, and readers’ responses across time
but my attention was also on the beautiful seventeenth-century meeting room with its diamond-paned windows, old balcony, and the panelled wall behind my bench.
Jordans Quaker Meeting House was built in 1688 by William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, so we took the chance to explore its history and grounds
then went to an oxfam bookshop. Turns out I really can’t leave the house without collecting more books :/
