I had an au idea where, because of Bugsnax's abilities to shapeshift, over time the whole of Snaktooth has gathered enough information that the snax can try and mimic more than just lures-
Two snaks, adopted by grumpuses, wanted to become like their new friends- One of these snax being my oc Elina's rootle friend Pip and the other being Sprout- they'd heard stories of Grumpuses becoming Snax Queens, and thought they could do the reverse
They appear to shapeshift into eggs, but what actually happens is, after absorbing enough calcium, they create a calcium cocoon that is identical to an eggshell. Inside they metamorphise into perfect Grumpus mimics... physically, at least- mentally, they've still got a lot of learning to do, but they're both children so that isn't a job they'll have to do alone!
Sprout is raised by the whole town, though some have doubts about what the hell happened or how, he's well taken care of- he learns new words easily, pronouncing them pretty much perfectly, but he heavily struggles to understand what they ACTUALLY mean, so he just parrots words in nonsensical strings
While things seem quite happy for the residents of Snaxburg, especially Gramble and Buddy, something horrific lurks on the horizon now that Snaktooth has witnessed just how far the Bugsnax's abilities to transform can go...
(Anyone may borrow this AU idea how they like as, it's a big bundle of, Various Tiny Bits of Inspiration taken from so many places I can't be sure exactly where I got the idea- though major credit to the Strawberry Shortcake AU for Pip's conception as a character in my mind and my newfound interest on the line between Individual Snak and Snaktooth Itself)
