When she meets Robin!Jason Todd she is determined to help him kick the habit. She knows how easy it is for fathers (Roger Gordon) and mothers (Catherine Todd) to lose themselves to drugs or alcohol, and she wants to help keep Jason off that path. Challenge #03434-I146: Born Again Gormlessness

They find a necromancer willing to make a new body for the poor idiot. But the person will lose all their magic and have to learn everything back from square one. Maybe learn better manners and respect as well.
    https://peakd.com/fiction/@internutter/challenge-03245-h336-2020-hindsight -- Anon Guest

"I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll need a holiday after this. I'm getting old and creaky."

Yngvar, barely visible under a newly-invented Helm of Obviousness, said, "How long do Kobolds live?" His voice was almost a whisper on the wind.

Rawr said, "One hundred and twenty, I heard... though the un-joke is five seconds after they meet an adventurer." He winced at it instead of a pity laugh. "Kobolds and Adventurers have become wiser since the last time that was a joke."

Bad Cop Act || Sam Winchester w/ PODFIC

Imagine… When a case takes too long to move along, Y/n takes it into their own hands.
Request: "Could you please do the 'No doubt, that's the stupidest thing you've ever done' prompt with Sam, please?"

    Ko-Fi + Podfics & Social links

Note: Any instance where the reader is meant to add information to the fic (Such as Y/N, L/N etc) has been added to in the PODFIC for ease of recording.

Sam and Y/n were in the middle of questioning the partner of one of the victims. Usually, this sort of thing won't take long; in for a quick chat and out before you know it, it was routine.

That wasn't the case for this one.

The victim's husband, Ms Myers, held back information, and it was clear by her mannerisms. It was as if she wasn't even trying to hide that she was lying to them; which frankly started to get on Y/N's nerves.

"Ms Myers, can you tell me if you noticed anything odd? or different on the night of the incident?" Sam spoke.

"Um, well," She began, looking between the two hunters (not that she knew they were hunters) and shut off yet again, "uh, no, there's nothing odd that comes to mind."

You've got to be kidding me, Y/N let out a huff in frustration as they lean forward, elbows on their knees, hands cupped in front of them, lips curled in a menacing smile and as their eyes held a sharp intent look.

"I don't mean to be disrespectful, Ms Myers," Their voice came out like venom, and it sent a shiver down Sam's back and made his hairs stand on end; whatever comes next is going to be messy.

"I know that you been through a lot with all that has happened to you in the past couple days, but I do kindly ask you to cut the bullshit."

"Ex-excuse me!?" Ms Myers manages out, eyes wide and mouth hung ajar.

Y/N rolled their eyes, "You're hiding something. Evident by the stammering, not meeting our eyes when answering questions, constantly figging. We could choke it up to nervousness, or" They leaned closer, scanned Ms Myer's face as their lips curled in a dangerously innocent smile, "you had something to do with your own husband's death."

    "What? No! I would never!"

"Then what is there to hide? Are your protecting someone perhaps?"

    "I-uh-"

"Agent, I think that is enough." Sam held his hand in front of Y/n asking them to stop, but they don't meet his eyes and are still looking at Ms Myers.

"No innocent person would be acting like this, Agent. You know that."

"I loved my husband! I would never-"

"Then you won't have anything to hide, would you?"

Sam shot Y/n warning glared before he turned to Ms Myers with an apologetic look, " Ms Myers, I'm so sorry about my partner's-"

"Well, I'm not," They earned themself another glare.

"No, it- it's quite already." Ms Michael said, "there is something I haven't been telling the two of you."

    ~*~*~*~*~*~

The hunter duo walked out of the house and onto the driveway; Y/n carried a satisfied grin on their face, and Sam a disapproving look on his.

Y/n turned around to face Sam and noticed he didn't look so thrilled as they were, "What?"

    "Was any of that necessary?"

"I mean," They look up at him with a sheepish smile as they rocked on the balls of their feet, "It worked, didn't it?"

He pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a deep sigh, "No doubt. That's the stupidest thing you ever have done."

"You can't argue with the results there, Sammy."

He looked at their genuinely proudful smile and knew he couldn't argue with their point; though he didn't like how they got the results they wanted.

As he glanced back at the house they just walked out of they saw Ms Myers watching them from behind their curtains.

"I think that is our cue to leave. Come on, we have a case to get done."

So I just finished rereading the Dragons in Our Midst and Oracles of Fire series (a 7-month-long endeavor), and I thought I would share my thoughts now that I've finished revisiting what were arguably some of the most influential (to me) books of my preteen and early teen years.

Much to my relief, my level of enjoyment while reading these books didn't go down — actually, I think it probably had an overall upward trend.

(Except for the bit where I literally hurt my thumb while reading Bones of Makaidos because of supporting that thick of a book for long reading sessions.)

I think I had forgotten just how weird these books are? Or maybe I just never realized in the first place? But somehow you end up with dragons and King Arthur stuff coexisting with sci-fi-ish elements like Ashley's inventions and Mardon's experiments, plus multiple different dimensions, most of which are some form of afterlife, and it's crazy. I like it, though, and I deeply respect the fact that Davis has managed to build a career out of more or less writing whatever he wants without really worrying about either genre or genre conventions. Life goals right there, y'all.

There is so much allegory and Christian/spiritual messaging in these books. Like, I remember them as being very heavily Scriptural/Christian even for 2000s Christian fantasy, but I think I originally didn't pick up on half of what was in there. It's kind of a lot at times, but it's also kind of nice to read something that's so up-front about its message.

On a related note, I actually appreciate The Candlestone and Enoch's Ghost a lot more now because I understand what the author was doing! Like, Enoch's Ghost was originally probably my least or second-least favorite in the series? And now I'm like, this is great! I see what's going on! And storm me if this does not explain a lot about why Ashley is one of my favorite characters!

(Side note: at one point, I was making a comment about how my favorite book in any given Davis series is, for some reason, usually the one in which the characters go through literal hell, and I said that this was true "with the exception of Enoch's Ghost." Davis saw this and helpfully pointed out that no, the characters definitely do end up in hell a bit in the book, and I was just . . . too polite to point out that I meant the exception in the other direction. But at this point, Enoch's Ghost might be my favorite in OoF, so . . . retroactively true? IDK.)

There's a lot of family in this series, and it's absolutely wonderful. And Davis really emphasizes parent-child relationships (which are hard to do well in adventure fantasy) as opposed to sibling relationships (which are comparatively easy to work in and probably more common), and I just love any instance of multiple generations fighting and adventuring alongside one another, or of the main characters turning to their parents for advice and support even as they're getting older and becoming more independent.

I legit cannot stop thinking about how these books kind of came out at the last possible moment. They were published from 2004 to 2009, and had they come out ten years later, they would've been a completely different story. In the 2000s, you have this sweet spot where the internet is very much a thing, but people don't really have camera phones or constant access to the internet. Like, can you imagine the beginning of Raising Dragons in today's society? Besides the fact that, depending on the school, Bonnie probably wouldn't be able to get away with keeping her backpack on all the time . . . like, her and Billy's escape? There wouldn't be rumors about giant bat creatures floating around the school; there'd be two dozen photos and videos being rapidly posted to FB and IG and someone catching just the right angle to be like "Is that Bonnie???? and that's definitely Billy????? what the heck????" And that's mild compared to the chaos that something like the climax of Circles of Seven or the modern-Earth-side events of Oracles of Fire would create.

Anyway, rereading these was an excellent choice. 10/10 would recommend. I'm going to reread Children of the Bard too sometime soon, but I don't have the same experience with them that I do with DiOM and OoF, so they're part of a different Event.

I think people in Gotham don't question why Bruce has a 10 year old child who's supposed to be his biological son all of suddenly, because he has so many children no one can keep track anymore.

Let's see, you has the funny one, and the angry one, the smart one... The blonde girl is your daughter or is she Gordon's youngest? And the quiet scary asian?
