so I’ve had this no till revelation and my mental map of my garden just like TRIPLED??!  I had already planned for a pumpkin patch and possibly watermelon, in addition to the staples—tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers, herbs etc (what am I missing??)

👀 and then I was like I CAN DO CORN

but y’all

corn is wind pollinated -- it needs to be planted in blocks -- rows and rows, so that it will pollinate correctly, so corn is not a small undertaking

I already have my small community garden plot here

and this new garden is already a huge undertaking -- it’s far less impossible now that I don’t need to till.  but jfc someone stop me 😂 don’t let me do corn this year.  I mean, encourage a massive garlic crop, because THAT is happening for sure (it’s planted in the fall and harvested the following summer).  but I should probably draw the line at corn

I may also need to invest in drip irrigation

Feeling beleaguered, post hoyas.

Despite the ongoing warm weather tantrum, the sunrise decided to grace me with her very first bloom. She kicked off two other peduncles due to being thirstier than I realized, but now I understand that I need to really keep on top of it right now. Sad to be losing all those would-be blooms, but some hoyas are like that. The bloom smelled a little like Froot Loops, but a little spicy? I liked it!

Last photo shows my first bloom of the season from my obovata, who is preparing for quite the season. (6 of 8 peduncles have blooms arriving). A much more easygoing hoya whose only “tantrum” is just turning into a statue for a while. I think the blooms smell like peonies when freshly opened.

The goal for this year is to get all plants to grow peduncles, even though the more reasonable goal is to get all my bloom ready plants to bloom. I’ve had three new plants make blooms so far this year, with hopes to get 4 more!

WHILE NEREIDA KNEW THAT Inika and herself were safer in Highgarden than on the Roseroad , she couldn’t help but shake the feeling of knowing that something was going to happen. She would follow Queen Selina anywhere , Nereida knew this well , but she would be lying if she said that she didn’t want to return to Driftmark. To combat this feeling and this home sickness , Nereida hadn’t let Inika out of her sight. Only with trusted Septas and her brothers would she leave Inika alone.

While the engagement ball had just started taking place , Nereida decided to take Inika out into the gardens , to let her play around for a little bit so that she would go to sleep for her Septas much easier. The three year old scuttered about the little garden section she had been confined too , calling out to her mother to almost anything she saw that was interesting. This time , it was about fish in a fountain.

 “Hold on , Inika!” Nereida said , swooping Inika up into her arms which caused the girl to giggle. Nereida sat down in the grass, holding Inika up to where she could see the fish.  “Look , Mama!” Inika pointed at a small fish that swam by. With her arm around Inika’s waist and peering over her daughter’s shoulder to see , Nereida pointed at a larger fish with orange and white coloring that had swam by. “Look at that one , Nika! Isn’t it pretty?”
