Hi Gina! After following your blog for a while I like to share a few thoughts about Hs Marketing and PR campaign and ask for your opinion. I worked in the European entertainment and PR industry but changed my job after experiencing a lot of sexual harassment. I am a familiar with artist campaigns and also with closeting – a close friend is closeted as a pro sports.

Here my thoughts or points that appear weird to me based on what H has shown and is showing of himself and telling in interviews:

PR stunt with someone related to Weinstein and with a lot of problematic statements? I get they are signed by the same artist agency who often puts clients in PR stunts and he or his team and it would get him into Hollywood. But sorry – how can you do this as part of the LGBTQIA+ community and as someone who said several times not to objectify others?

My friend has followed 1D and their solo carriers and has found support and comfort in their queercoding and the “I am just like you” and “home”. The clothing and bluegreening is communication between them and the Larry fandom or their LGBTQIA+ fans. The latest James Cordon videos and the bluegreen HSHQ post raised questionmarks: Is bluegreening as marketing? Larry has always been part of the marketing but first of all communication and mutual support? Now it is marketing for this part of the fandom? That’s a different approach. But it worked and the fandom flipped out and is happy after the big stunt at ONO London for the Harries.

My last point may appear provocative - it is only a thought based on my PR skills. The last days brought big headwind regarding ticket prices and with first fans realizing that artists make the decision of premium ticketing not ticketmaster. As PR what is an often used reaction? Do something good and make people talk about. Today a post with announcement of measures with and donation for everytown. Don’t get me wrong – it’s great. But it is a PR tool. And: he is British not US citizen. As an European I would not appreciate an artist from another country make political statements regarding issues in my country. But perhaps this is another thing in the US? The fandom is enthusiastic so it is perhaps only me.

Sorry – very long and lots of thoughts. The last days and weeks brought a strange aftertaste to both of us. It’s giving a lot different and not matching impressions. and English is not native language. Thanks for reading and answering.

Hi sweetheart. Thanks for all of your thoughts. I don't really have an answer as to why they chose Olivia for this stunt. I tend to think it's a very layered and complex stunt. Previous beards have been models looking for a little name recognition and a career boost and he just needed to appear straight. Camille served as a person to pin an album to. Olivia seems like a completely different kettle of fish and I can't begin to understand the point of going so hard with this relationship. But I will say that every single woman he's been connected to has has some level of "problematic" behavior and I don't think they (or at least Harry) could have predicted how narcissistic and thirsty she would turn out to be. I do find it very interesting how hard they're working to make it obvious that songs are not about her or were written before meeting her. Perhaps they're trying to create some distance.

As for blue and green and Larry... this push and pull has been going on for years in this fandom and it always works (much to my annoyance). Most people here seem to have the memory span of a hamster. They react to "x", then "y" happens and they forget all about "x". Until it happens again. And this is both for "good" things as well as "bad". I don't think this means every time it happens it's marketing, and I don't think it means it's fake. Harry and Louis often seem to use blue and green as communication to each other and to us. But I do think their teams know larries still make up a large portion of the fan base and our money is just as good as anti's money, so they'll use it as well.

As for your last question. IMO, it's very likely Harry had intended to make this donation to Everytown and he's spoken out about gun violence in America before, so this doesn't actually feel disingenuous to me. Did they announce it earlier than intended because of the uproar about ticket prices? Perhaps. But it was also just a very timely show of support and empathy and was done today because of the shooting in Texas. Yes, it drew people's attention away from yelling about Ticketmaster. But I just don't think that's why it was done. I don't recall if they did anything like this that last 463728 times people made an uproar about something Harry did. Because, let's be real. People are always fucking complaining about something he's done that they don't like.

As for him being British, I don't think Americans are offended at all by him speaking out. Most of us are sick to death of the way our politicians and lawmakers do nothing about gun control or a woman's right to choose etc etc. And anything that calls attention to, or helps support groups who are working to make positive change, is very much appreciated.
