How can westerners see their 50% divorce rate and shrinking birth rates and suicide and drug use epidemic and not realize that the social conservatives were in the right?

Sherlock: Being gay is a constant battle between "I wish to sit on a window bench with my lover, our legs tangling as we listen to the birds" and "Hey, let's go throw rocks at fascists" and I think that's very sexy of us.
John: If the window's open and you time it right, you can do both.
“I’ve always loved promises. They made reality seem less bleak.
When I was young I used to make my parents promise the impossible.
I’ll always be here
I’ll always be able to carry you
I’m always on your side
I knew they couldn’t hold these promises. But they made them anyways.
I wondered why. Why make promises you know are empty? And why did they matter to me?
But, truly, I already knew.
I knew that it’s wasn’t the promise I was fond of or that eased my anxiety
It was that, at the very least, my parents wanted to be all of those things for me forever. And there was something comforting in that.”

Εμένα γιατί δεν μου τα έκανες αυτά;
Γιατί εμένα δεν μου τα έκανες όλα αυτά μπαμπά;
Δεν ήμουν η κόρη που ήθελες;
Ήμουν πολύ απαιτητική;
Ήμουν πολύ φασαριόζα;
Έκλαιγα πολύ;
Δεν ήθελες εμένα για κόρη σου;
Και οι άλλοι πατεράδες, γιατί ήθελαν τις κόρες τους μα στον δικό μου δεν αρκούσα;
Που ήσουν μπαμπά όταν πήρα το πρώτο 10;
Που ήσουν μπαμπά όταν πρώτο ερωτεύτηκα;
Που ήσουν μπαμπά όταν ξενυχτούσα πάνω από τα βιβλία για να κάνω εσένα και την μαμά περήφανους;
Που ήσουν μπαμπά όταν πέρασα στο πανεπιστήμιο;
Που είσαι τώρα μπαμπά;

Neville: Did I scream and cry like a baby?
Neville: No, of course not.
Neville: A baby does not have the lung capacity to do what I just did.

Chat: Goddess Sora!
Sora: I'm not a Goddess! Will you please listen? I am not a Goddess, do you understand?! Honestly!
Chat: Only a true Goddess denies her divinity.
Sora: What?! Well, what sort of chance does that give me? All right! I am the Goddess!
Chat: She is! She is a Goddess!

There is a ruthlessness to life. It seems to lack balance--and in its particulars, it does. None of us is able to stand far back enough from life to see the balance that somehow exists. The child is never who the parent wants them to be, and they must not be. Even if a daughter accepts the lessons of her father, she will turn into a creature he didn't expect. But that is entirely necessary. That is how the world changes, how values and criticisms evolve and change. A child must follow the rules of her own being. A parent can never truly understand what those values or rules are. A child is an alien to the parent, which hurts the parent a little. The child's whole life can feel like a betrayal. But life is not a betrayal of life.
