bought: umm, i think the last book i bought was The Last House on Needless Street, which is a horror book but i can’t describe too much about it otherwise it’ll give away things. i’m about halfway through it and it’s been pretty good so far!
borrowed: i can’t remember the last time i borrowed a book from someone...maybe in high school? it was one of the Percy Jackson books, though. after the first series ended and the new ones started. i think it was The House of Hades but i’m not too sure!
was gifted: my husband actually gave me a book two weeks ago! it’s Dark Matter by Michelle Paver. it’s a fantastic horror novel about an expedition to the Arctic in 1937. circumstances end up leaving only one poor guy alone at their ill-chosen base camp and shit gets creepy from there. i ended up reading it when my husband was out of town and actually needed the lights on and forced my cats to sleep with me bc i freaked myself out, but i also can’t handle horror well even though i love the genre. definitely recommend it!
gave/lent: i lent my sister my copy of House of Leaves a few weeks ago. i’m hoping to get it back by the end of the year, but we’ll see lmao
finished: i finished Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar last week. it reads like a true crime novel but it’s a fictional case about the murders of teenage girls in a small town and how the main character tries to figure out wtf is going on. the format was pretty interesting and i enjoyed the book as well as the cast of characters in it.
started: i rotate books a lot but i’m pretty sure the one i started the most recently is The Outcasts by Kathleen Kent. it’s set in the 1800s in the Old West with buried treasure, outlaws, and cowboys so what more could you want?!
5 stars: lmao i’m pretty sure i gave both Dark Matter and Chasing the Boogeyman five stars so... but another one i really adored was Comfort Me With Apples by Catherynne M. Valente. it’s a novella about a woman named Sophia who was made to be the perfect wife for her husband. everything in her life is going swell until she starts to dig deeper into his past. i think i read it all in one go and i loved every second of it!
2 stars: i liked The Liar of Red Valley by Walter Goodwater until the last quarter of the book. the ending felt really rushed and there were lots of loose ends and things that just got dropped so the book could end and i was really disappointed! i love magical realism so much!!! but the ball got dropped on this one imo.
didn’t finish: lol i’m pretty sure it was a kindle unlimited book called Master of Salt & Bones by Keri Lake. it was supposed to be a Gothic romance with a nice dose of smut but the main characters were so insufferable i couldn’t even make it to the first sex scene. with them together, anyway. i read way too many scenes with the guy character fucking the French house maid and thinking about how huge her tits were and how annoying and not like other girls the main character was. not my cup of tea and i returned it pretty quickly. oh well! there are a lot of good kindle unlimited books out there if you can find them!

I'm back on my "oh this could make a good story" bullshit.
The writing of this story is not going too well. I'm wasting too much time, I'm not happy in the least with what I've written so far, it reads really dry and... it's just blah.
