Something that I’ve been thinking about. Spoilers for the Mugen Train Arc

I think Rengoku’s death was absolutely necessary. As sad as we find it, up until this point there is no character death that we as an audience really feel the weight of. Tanjiro’s family was introduced and killed off in the same episode. We don’t really get the chance to feel for Tanjiro or feel close to his family as he did. All of the demons were killed by a demon slayer’s hand. We’re rooting for them. They’re the good guys. But Rengoku? With the extras episodes they added and the mugen train itself, we as an audience get close to Rengoku like Tanjiro’s crew does. Not only that but from what I understand it’s heavily implied that he never lets anyone die on his watch. We’re rooting for him the entire fight because someone as strong as him and someone that exudes such sunshine has to win, right? There’s no way that he can lose. Something in my mind is connecting him to Aslan. But wrong. He dies, and Akaza gets away. I think his death and his dying words to Tanjiro really solidify to the audience the fact that this story is a tragedy. I think he acts as a turning point where people will be dying from here on out, because even the character that was loved by all, couldn’t make it to the end of the story. His death is the catalyst to Tanjiro becoming stronger. Can you tell how much I like Rengoku’s character?
