The tender caress of warm fingers across the line of her spine brought out a slow humm from the brunette’s mouth. “because,” she dumps her bags on the ground, straps falling from her shoulders before there’s a thud as she takes a step over the threshold and reaches for vera, fingers dipping beneath the sash round her robe as she pulls the woman close, almost flush against herself before she’s leaning down to kiss her softly. heat flares immediately, crimson smearing up her neck and across her cheeks; thankful for the minimal lighting and nighty sky to shield the heat already spreading through her body as she pulls away from vera slowly, a content sigh spilling out. “if you’re not going to leave, then i’m going to come to you.” stubborn as a mule. lifting a hand, brushing away curls, tucking them behind vera’s ear before stroking her cheek. she wasn’t going to sleep regardless, so she may as well do it where she could see the other; see the rise and fall of vera’s chest, hear the steady rhythm of her breath filling the silence, each twitch of her features along her face and the warmth radiating from her body that would ensure saren vera was safe and sound. “you didn’t think i was going to just leave you on your own, did you?” she almost squints, shaking her head as she quietly scoffs and smooths back vera’s hair, a furrow coming to sit between her brows.
the second she’d see the name flash across her phone at such an hour, she knew it wasn’t good news. her pulse shattered through her body, vera’s words only making saren’s head ring louder and louder, body dragging itself beneath her mattress as she sunk further and further into the ground. it was the first she was hearing of it all; a stalker—prowler, a break in. she was going to be sick at the very thought of anything happening to vera. stay with me. she’d insisted to the other, kept repeating her words over and over every time vera shut her down. but saren was already out of bed packing a bag on the first no.
“i wouldn’t forgive myself if anything happened to you.” her voice wavers, lowering as she keeps her sight fixated on vera, her fingers gently running down the woman’s neck and along her shoulder before down her arm to slip her fingers into the empty spaces. “you can say you don’t need protecting, but i don’t care, i won’t listen. i care about you too much to let anything happen. so if you won’t come and stay with me tonight, then i’m staying with you. i’ll stay as long as you want me to.” squeezing vera’s hand, leaning further, closer to her as saren’s forehead comes to rest against vera’s. “please let me stay. i want you to be safe and i don’t,” she almost sighs, lids falling shut as her tongue dips out. “you’re safe with me.”
