Blumenkranz was actually my first translation after a several year break. I mean, I dabbled in translations before, but I never actually understood the importance of “choosing specific words” (the ones that can easily fit in your mouth while singing), “similarities between sounds in languages, ” etc. For this song, I wanted to capture the dark meaning of Ragyo Kiryuin’s ideology (I haven’t watched the anime though, so I’m going off what other people told me!) In the original song, there are a lot of repeating lyrics, but I felt that it’s somewhat…monotonous, so I created some of my own.
Here are also some scrapped versions.
This was a variant of the first verse:
Where is the warm, promised sun
Its light is lost within the field
I am just one
Of dying, wilting flowers
I don’t know. It felt kind of generic to me, which is why it ended up in the trash bin.
This was the second verse:
Cruel, ruthless life
It won’t listen to my tears
Foolish, wretched life
Manifest your darkest fears.
You have to stretch out your syllables in this version (foolish, cruel), which I feel doesn’t fit the song’s “steppiness.” Plus, what does “manifest your darkest fears” mean in this context? It came into my head because it sounded cool, but it didn’t really work.
Lastly, the line’s Am I even living, or am I gone alter ego was Will the flower garden indeed be mine. The second version is definitely closer to the original, but I wanted to keep the flower references to a minimum so that I won’t overuse the metaphor.
Alright, that’s about it. Articulation is always a big thing, and happy singing!

Technical notes:
The “you” after “But I can’t see you, I can’t hear” comes immediately after. Same with “Will” after “Throughout space and time”
For the last line, you can substitute it with “As the flowers bloom on my crown.” It’s easier to sing, but in my opinion, it takes away from the unnerving feel the “heavy, floral red crown” carries.

But y'know life happens and sometimes Tails has to spend 4 hours helping him get clean, 2 of those hours being spent convincing him to bathe now instead of waiting until morning and the other 2 spent actually bathing, blow-drying, and brushing, which Sonic doesn't need much help with. Speaking of, he has gotten fleas before. It sucks. Him and Tails had to painstakingly comb through his absurd amount of fur almost the entire night to get them all off
