i think it's kind of disgusting that people will try to dismiss sal's actions just because he has more depth. Like yeah he's sympathetic and was corrupted, but that doesn't change the fact that he raped a child.

The game gives him depth and especially in the comics you can see more of his personality before and after his corruption but you just can't change the fact that he had assaulted and given a young kid permanent trauma that will affect her for his entire life.

There is nowhere you can go from there. He has a lot of depth for sure, but he willing-fully assaulted a kid. It wasn't just corruption. The only thing corruption did to him was make him hostile and make the Great Blue Sea his. Do you ever see Tsuribari or Sheep rape people? You don't. Nor anyone else who suffered corruption. It was definitely him who wanted to do that, and you can't excuse that even if he has a sympathetic backstory. He's a complicated character you can enjoy for his depth, but don't try to excuse his actions or claim he can be redeemed.

I guarantee you if Sal looked like someone who was unattractive we wouldn't be having this conversation it feels like people only try to look through loopholes and excuse his actions just because they think he's cute

The word for “arise” also means “to float/rise to the surface”, and the word for “ephemeral” also means “bubbles/foam”...! Very fitting for the song’s theme of a naval war.
