Aw man what an absolutely delightful update!!! IROH UPDAAAAAAATTTTTEEEEE!!!!! I also have enjoyed the break from Sokka pov still just because I still think getting the outside view on the situation is so fun also healer for the win but for real when is someone gonna send a letter to Katara this poor girl 3 and Aang too, also rip to seeing the prisoners probably next chapter and rip to Sokka's slow steps towards regaining stability, gone now -Suki Anon
I’m glad you liked it!!! Iroh is interesting to write because he is calm & wise & all those other qualities but he was a rather cunning & ruthless general once,, who joked about storming BSS and taking over the city…. So I know he has that ability inside him.
Losing Zuko would have changed him just like he changed after losing Lu Ten, but it’s not completely clear in what way he was changed exactly. I’m sure we will find out the more as his character is explored :)
Morrak really is the MVP of RIA, the forest lesbians are spiritually high-fiving him.
It’s only been two days, going on three & we get to spend the entire next chapter in camp with everyone so I’m sure a lot of things (like letters & war plans) will be figured out.
Hopefully….
:D
I love how even on the verge of death, Sokka’s still horny as heck.

delicate - chapter 12
In which our lovely couple must contend with their respective families' reaction to the unexpected news of their courtship, while Sokka decides to take matters into his own hands.
AKA, the chapter where Zuko, Lu Ten, and Sokka all share a single brain cell between the three of them and proceed to play Hot Potato with said brain cell.
Basically, this chapter in a nutshell:
And also this:
I meant to have this out sooner, but the last two weeks have been... SOMETHING. I even had a COVID scare, though fortunately I tested negative.
Anyways, please enjoy the latest chapter, featuring Sokka learning the lesson of "f*ck around and find out" is especially true (and painful) when you push a firebender past the limits of his patience...
Katara: Zuko, why are you in the tub with the turtleduck?
Zuko: I wouldn't fit in the kitchen sink.

Zuko has always been his father’s disappointment. Deemed too weak to compete on his own in men’s single figure skating, he’s had to rely on a rotating stream of pairs partners to make it through season after season. But now that Zuko’s eighteen, his father has no lawful reason to keep Zuko around: And so Zuko finds himself both without a coach, and without a partner.
Sokka has always skated with Katara, but that changes when her boyfriend, Aang, comes of age for seniors and Katara decides she’d rather skate with him. At the same time, the International Skating Union announces that same-sex partners are now legal—and Sokka is determined to make a statement with his new choice of partner.
Aka, Zuko and Sokka take the world of figure skating by storm.

“It would only be temporary,” Ikem assures.
He says it so casually, as though taking care of a child wouldn’t uproot Zuko’s life completely. As though it’s just a simple favor and not something that Zuko could fuck up in so many different ways.

Zuko has a really good redemption arc, but I feel like part of why it's so universally acclaimed is that the writers didn't really have to do a lot of work?
In-universe, Zuko is absolutely a villain, because he is directly working for the imperialist power and is trying to capture the One Dude who can stop it. Ideologically, Zuko is 100% on-board with the whole "conquer the world" thing, he's just slightly less ruthless about it (notably, pre-Season 1 Zuko has no qualms about Earth Kingdom soldiers dying, he just thinks Fire Nation soldiers being needlessly sacrificed is dishonorable). Zuko, as a character, has a long way to go to reach a point where he is willing to fight against the Fire Nation's conquest.
But from the audience perspective:
For most of Season 1, Zuko is basically Team Rocket. He shows up every few episodes, fights Aang, and is pretty easily defeated with no injuries and rarely even major property damage.
He explicitly saves Aang. Like, this isn't even a “they team up in the heat of the moment” thing like in “The Chase” (Season 2), Zuko directly plots and executes a rescue attempt. And Aang is in a situation where his allies are incapacitated, so short of, IDK Iroh breaking him out, Aang has absolutely no hope of rescue. Sure, Zuko did it for selfish reasons, but also if Zuko doesn't do this, the Fire Nation straight up wins.
The worst crime he’s directly responsible for is burning down Suki’s village. And yes, that’s a shitty thing to do, but rendering a few dozen people we’ve never met homeless really doesn’t compare to other villains who get redeemed, who directly kill people or order deaths on screen. (Also, Suki is mad he burned down her village, but makes one angry remark and then is basically OK with him for the rest of the show.)
He’s somewhat culpable for Yue’s death (because he kidnapped Aang so Katara and Sokka aren’t there to defend the fish) and Aang getting zapped/Azula conquering Ba Sing Se, but both of those have mitigating factors. For the former, Zuko had no idea Zhao was after the fish and anyway, Aang might’ve still been meditating when Zhao got there and Katara couldn’t fight off 5 firebenders by herself. For the latter, Zuko helped Azula, but she had the entire Dai Li on her side, so a single firebender really wouldn’t have turned the tides against her.
Or, to put it another way, it’s about the contrast between Zuko’s arc being about an ideological change (Zuko basically has to change his entire worldview) vs. Zuko’s arc being about redeeming himself for his crimes (Zuko fought the Gaang a few times and burned some houses down).
A lot of times, I think audiences decide that a character can’t be redeemed if their crimes are too great (the latter), even if their ideology change (the former) is executed well. (And now we could get into dissecting what exactly a redemption arc is, namely is it just a character switching sides/ideologies, or does it fundamentally also need to address punishment/reparations for the crimes committed? If a story only addresses the ideology change and doesn’t address the crimes committed, does it “count”?)
This isn’t meant as a criticism of the writing. Like, I don't think Zuko's redemption arc is flawed. I just think it’s interesting to think about. How much of the fandom’s basically unanimous praise of Zuko’s arc (to a degree I don't think I’ve seen for any other redemption arc) is because it’s just that good, and how much is because Zuko really didn’t have that far to go? If you took all the major beats of the story, but Zuko killed people in Season 1, would it work as well?

sometimes i remember that there are people who hate jet out there and i get really sad. i’m not saying a lot of what he did was okay, but his parents were murdered when he was eight, and what did he do? he started caring for other orphaned children and trying to protect them. his anger consumed him and blinded him but if zuko can learn to see past prejudice and hate, so can he. i truly believe he deserved a redemption.
